Whilst I was moaning on about all the restaurants that have given up on GF items on their menus I was thinking too of brighter things.
Pies! I love a pork pie and cornish pasty, steak pie. I could go on but you get the picture. I have found an online outlet that sells the lot, all delicious and I want mooooore! They also do black pudding, I must admit it's not the best black pudding in the world but it's not bad far all that. If you, like me like pies then have a look at voakespies.co.uk. They deliver all over the UK and their products are freezable.
There is also Pieminster who sell through Ocado and I have bought them in Waitrose in the pre-pandemic days. They also have Pieminster Restaurants where you can get your pie and mash. There's one in Bold Street, Liverpool. Haven't tried it yet but will do so as soon as possible.
I'm off now to drool in anticipation.

I rate Voakes Pies too. They started out making regular pies, but when a family member was diagnosed as coeliac, they opened a new GF pie factory in Whixley, near York, which is local for me. voakespies.co.uk/. It is such a treat to have a real pie.
BabsyWabsy, you've put the web address for the pies with gluten on here. The gf one is voakesfreefrom.co.ukJust thought you should know so you can change it. Thank you so much for mentioning them, I found out about them ages ago on another post on here but at the time couldn't order any due to lack room in freezer and I'd forgotten all about them!! So THANK YOU!! 😊
Oops, good spot. Thanks for flagging that up. I think there is a link for GF on the main website though. How silly of me.
Looks good. Thanks for sharing! The owner has also been diagnosed with coeliac so that's a good indication of safety concerns. They do make normal pies also - I wonder how they separate out the production to keep it safe, and stop interaction between gluten / non gluten.
Hi Kim1950 this is great that we have these options. My favourite was the cheese and onion pie by Clives pies but they don't make these anymore so here's a link to their gluten free pies, most whole food shops sell Clives pies too.
Some good sharing going on here today! Clearly the sunshine is bringing out thoughts of pies and picnics. I'm aware from your other posts Jerry that you are highly sensitive to any gluten - so it's good you recommend these. They also seem to make normal pies also so good that two things can be made by the one company and they can keep things safe.

Hey Ben thats what its about so if you like gluten free picnic foods here's some gluten free vegetarian Scotch eggs I recently made:
And here's how I made them as we have well over 300 gluten free posts listed under Topics on HE. 👍😊
Hi Jerry, had a look at Clive's Pies this morning and I was a little bemused by the pies on offer until I realised that they were vegetarian. There's a couple I would try, I'm not anti vegetarian, it's just that I do like a steak pie. I see they're a Devon firm, so next time I'm wandering around down there I'll certainly give them a try, I am very fond of cassoulet. Does anyone know if there's a central resource where all this type of information is easily available?
Hi Kim I just like cheese and potato so that was the one I liked. The problem withy central resources are foods are constantly changing with new ones and being updated.
There are gluten free food lists available throughout the world by the countries own coeliac societies with phone apps. But I don't use them as I'd rather read the labels! I bake most of my gluten free bread cakes and cookies and mostly cook from scratch. 😊
I have made the pork pies from Becky Excell’s book twice and they’re lovely. They also freeze well, because even I can’t eat 12 pork pies in three days (well I probably could to be fair, but it seems inadvisable). The pastry is unbelievably good. Instead of mincing and seasoning pork, I cheat and just skin 8 of my favourite GF sausages and mix in the chopped bacon, no further seasoning required. Fed them to relatives at a funeral tea last week and people (normal without coeliac people) were going for seconds. Mmmmm, pork pies.
I've had a look at Becky Excell's website and I'm not that keen on getting her book as I'm not that keen on cakes and pastries and that's what it seems to be mostly about. Pies on the other hand are definitely of interest.
