Fed up being ill - going private for SIBO test

I've posted few times over past year with ongoing issues that seem to be down to hidden/sneaky gluten and/or other food/grain components that might be making me ill (e.g. lectins).

All tests have been cancelled owing to lockdown and have been waiting almost a year now for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) test. Have now gone private at princely cost of £250 for SIBO test. It's a breath hydrogen test, and apparently SIBO may be explanation for refractory coeliac symptoms.

Will keep everyone updated (lucky you!!!) as to how it goes and if it's worth exploring also. I'm going through the Functional Gut Clinic in Manchester (who knew such a place existed?!).

Thanks Penel!

Hello Hidden I think that this is very wise as lactose intolerance is common and of you are ingesting allowed levels of gluten that affect your villi then you could well have lactose intolerance which may well be temporary due to low levels of gluten.

My body cannot tolerate allowed levels of gluten and herein lies the real problem for many coeliac in the UK sadly. And I wish there was support for UK coeliac who cannot tolerate gluten....

Good luck with your tests and do let us know how you get on. 😊

Thanks Jerry. I've been lactose intolerant since my 20's, quite allergic since mid-30's. It's all the other foods that are now causing reactions. Can't have anything with a whiff of sugar/fructose, so the SIBO test also tests for fructose. Hoping the test comes back with some interesting explanations that I can target. Will keep you posted ; )
