I had my well woman yearly check-up. Today I have a letter from my doctor saying. I am at risk of type two diabetes. I am so disappointed. Most of the time I do have a good diet and loads of fruit and veg. I am a little overweight, so I will really try and cut down on my food. I did read somewhere that eating a lot of mushrooms can cause Diabetes. Has anyone else heard this?

Hi benmaise,
Sorry to hear that you’ve had a disappointing health review.
I don’t think you can blame diabetes on the mushrooms! In fact, Diabetes UK have recipes that include mushrooms on their webpage.
It sounds like you could have an insulin resistance problem. It’s not too late to change this – my understanding is that it’s reversible, if one is willing to undertake the steps to change their lifestyle.
Now that doesn’t mean eating a little less food and then going on as before. It will mean committing to a completely new way of eating well. This can be achieved by going on a ZERO sugar (including all types of artificial sweetener - they cause insulin issues), LOW CARB, clean eating diet. Permanently, long term, forever, with no looking back.
This is where you start entering the realms of Keto and Paleo styles of eating. I made the switchover about 15 months ago, because I had ongoing health issues, which weren’t being resolved by eating the traditional western diet.
I’m not an expert but I believe there is a GP somewhere in the Manchester area who originally championed the low carb approach for diabetes here in the UK - and got some spectacular results (however his exact details escape my memory). Instead you may find this link useful:

Btw, A side effect of a full Keto Diet is weight loss. I lost over 3 stone in 10 months and now have to consciously maintain my new weight, as I’m at the right level for my build.
Good luck sorting out what you want to do.
