How are you guys coping with cheese. Are you generally ok with dairy with low lactose content such as hard cheeses ( tasty, cheddar, or a bit feta ) or butter even when you eat quite a lot of it? (Provided not on an empty stomach, without factoring that in)

It’s the casein protein in dairy as it’s similar to gluten. I’m totally gluten and dairy free. I also avoid soya and soybean products like “natural flavor” and monosodium glutamate.

I avoid yogurts, ghee, any kind of whey protein supplement and energy bars.

Olive oil is the only thing I cook in.

Casein may really be it. Not long after i got too comfortable with hard cheese and yoghurt( lactose free), symptoms flared up awfully. It’ll be clear in a couple of days. Thank you

I have no issues with dairy at all. I'm Nordic, we're said to have the lowest rate of adults whit lactose intolerance.

But, I had to stop eating meat 15 years ago instead. A part of me is a wee bit curious to find out if the meat issues was due to having untreated gluten intolerance.

That same question -if my food issues are due to untreated gluten intolerance or not- crosses my mind quite frequently. Sorry to hear that btw. The deprivations we have seem just so unfair.

Yes, I was told by a doctor to my surprise that he doubted my daughter really had dairy issues, coz he was certain she was celiac instead. We had no idea about celiac at that time, I knew she couldn't digest milk properly, Especially not with sweets at the same time. (He was so certain that he didn't even take tests..) but saw the doctor because of her pain in legs, back, everywhere and tiredness .. He said that lactose intolerance is a common symptom of celiac disease, it usually disappear after the gut is healed. He was right. I doubted him wrongfully.

I'm actually fine with it, it was a bit sad in the beginning, but its 15 years ago. I had no choice, either quit eating or starve.. Coz it only stayed in my stomach for twenty minutes.

Its the same with going gluten free, the benefits are so great that it just feels like a relief - not a burden. I had no life before, not at all.

Hence I see GF as a victory - not at all a deprivation in any other way than too many years thrown away because I didn't know the cure. I wish I had been GF my entire life instead.. What a life that would have been 😍

I’m ok with a little lactose-free dairy. If I overdo it, I get an eczema type flare-up.

As you have also mentioned a problem with polyols, have you looked at other high FODMAP foods to see if these are a problem for you?

Most dairy gives me uncontrollable flatulence. Big difference when I tried a lactose/gluten/wheat free frozen pizza. I still have yogurt and mature cheddar in my omelettes, hey ho.

As Penel says, I too have sensitive skin that was diagnosed at 13 as neurodermatisis. Comes and goes through the years but haven't nailed it down yet.

Mature cheddar is worth a try in small quantities i think.

In contrary to many of you, i never get any reaction apart from gastrointestinel(if i’m using the word correctly) and that is never in the form of pain. Some gurgling feelings/stirrings in bowels, some bubblings -rarely gas, if there’s gas it indicates to an upcoming severe d. - and loose bowel motions and d. later.

Btw, i just read someone in the forum saying that she thinks that it’s not worth living anymore. For me, of course it’s not. I would have signed off literally thousands of times over in the last 10 years, but we unfortunately don’t have an on&off button. I wish there was an ‘easy sign off pill’ or something for whomever prefers to do so. But no, that’s somehow not an option, even if it’s me&and my own life&and my conscious choise, that’s in question here. I always find this to be such a contradiction.

I couldn’t help but sharing. Don’t denounce me please.

Health problems can be very difficult and depressing to deal with. Talking to your doctor may be a good idea, if you haven’t already.

I have can't do any draiy at all,I found some good dairy free cheese that I like

So just try the dairy free cheese there are different brands.so just them

I don;t seem to have any difficulty with hard cheeses and yogurt. I do believe I'm sensitive to lactose though, but only if I have ice-cream. on the rare occasion I break down and have an ice cream cone. About 20 minutes later I get intestinal cramps, gas and bloating. It usually settles down pretty quickly.

Sure it’s not the cone rather (than the ice cream) that you have a problem with? Are you choosing gluten-free ones?

I don't eat cones anymore now that I eat gluten free. I haven't had ice cream or cones in ages. Maybe it's time for a little test in terms of ice cream. 😊
