Hi everyone.ive been away on holiday for two weeks - Agadir and abu dhabi which was great! The only thing spoiling my holiday was my diet.the hotels hardly had anything gluten free and I found it so so difficult with my food in both countries.in agadir they didn't even know what my probly really was.in Abu Dhabi I told the hotel before hand so they prepared a separate meal for me.but it would have no protein and carbs and just do boring everyday that I have up and told them to leave it be.i realised then how difficult it can be going away on a gluten free diet

There are gluten free (all allergies) card written in all languages available on the internet for free that I have used when I travel.

The middle east is hard. I had the most success in japan, france and Germany using these cards.

I’ve found Indian food, if available, works well in the Middle East. My issue is that I’m also totally dairy free so no butter either and that is hard.

Having travelled to many countries and had little trouble with a diet ( Abu Dhabi when it was just sand and a river 1971) did you speak to the restaurant manager about your needs? Even asking in advance does not always help.

Yes pretender.as I said I told them about my gluten free diet before I went there.and so it being a very expensive and 5* hotel I expected much better

Perhaps your requirements were not directed to the right person. The right person is usually the restaurant manager.

Yes that is who I got in contact with beforehand

Hotels get a large turn over of guests so it can be easily overlooked, I have on many occasions introduced myself to the restaurant manager on arrival and been well looked after even after notifying them of my needs in advance. That then becomes personal and any issues can be quickly dealt with and on many occasions treated better than other guests.

Hope you managed to enjoy your holiday despite the food problems. You would expect an up market hotel to be able to cater for different diets. Unfortunately you probably chose some of the most difficult countries to go gluten free in.
