Hi Blondie, Following a routine annual MOT my Dr. discovered low B12 and Folic acid. Subsquent tests resulted in my asymptomatic coeliac diagnosis. Been GF for approx 8 years and surprisingly my B12 is still low and i need 3 monthly injections.

Asymptomatic is someone who has the medical condition, but doesn't present with any of the 'visible' symptoms. However inside the body the dangers still exist, so they are treated as normal. So it was a GF diet for me.

I went straight from bloods showing low B12 and folic acid to an endoscopy/biopsy; then GF for 6 months and same test again. Last one showed my villi had recovered.

Looking back I now realise my diagnosis was one of the best things to have occurred in my life. I am now far more knowledgable about the rubbish western diets have become. Life is good for coeliacs!!

Hope this helps.

I was diagnosed with a B12 deficiency based on geographic tongue which lead to the blood test. I knew milk in my coffee was making me extremely sleepy after lunch. I started on Hydroxocobalamin injections. A couple months later, after advice from a PAS member, I went gluten free. All my symptoms reduced.

I had to ask for more frequent injections and got to monthly injections in the U.K.

I then moved to the USA and switched to monthly cyanocobalamin injection. I had to ask for more frequent injections and eventually started self injecting weekly.

Even though I've remained completely gluten and dairy free, I still need B12 injections. Whatever damage occurred to my gut, it is permanent.

Hi,

If you are an undiagnosed Coeliac, then gluten could be the cause of a B12 deficiency. I was slightly B12 deficient when I was diagnosed several years ago.

Newly/undiagnosed Coeliacs have gut damage which means they don't absorb vitamin and minerals as well as they should. I fought and won the right to have B12 injections because oral supplements weren't working for me at the time.

However Coeliac Disease isn't the only reason that people are B12 deficient. For example (and as you may be aware), another notable cause is Pernicious Anaemia.

I hope this helps.

There is not the slightest jot of truth in it. It is all a bunch of fruitloopery put forward by naturopaths, chiropractors and witch doctors.

So your saying it's true and that you have this tongue? I have also been going to docs for many years with no luck despite all health problems I'm in the process of trying to get doctors to rule this out.I Also have this tongue no thrush present and other infections ruled out.

No sore tongue but I am GF for 6 months. Tested positive for Gluten Allergens. Biopisy soon. GF lifestyle has taken away most symptoms except fatigue which another blood test was done and still low Vit D and now B12. Powered liquid drink seems to be helping. I have had the sore tongue and mouth sores but not lately.
