Hello, has anyone coeliac or gluten intolerant had hyperacusis or tinnitus? Has cutting out gluten helped?

I have tinitus and no going gf hasnt helped at all. It is potentially a neuro symptom from the b12deficiency that i also have which runs with the celiac.

Could I ask if the b12 has made any difference? I am on hydroxocobalamin injections alternate days but have had very little change yet.

Not gone, but not the screaming i used to have! I was in a car park one day and heard this really high pitched screech, wondered what was causing it- got in my car and guess what it was in my head!

But it was one of the things which i now know could be a symptom of b12d which i first had and ignored along with an almost constant bunged up feeling in my ears.- that has gone at least.

I am gluten intolerant and had hyperacusis and tinnitus for a number of months which has now gone. Mine didn't go with a gf diet but did go around the time of starting vitB supplements so I'd agree with your other reply

Many thanks for your reply, can I ask what type of b vit you were taking? I have had this for a couple of years now and now can't be in the same room as people eating due to the noise of the cutlery! I have been on hydroxocobalamin injections alternate days for the last couple of weeks but haven't seen much change yet.

Hi. I take an over the counter one from Amazon called solar bcomplex. I assume your on injections which avoid absorption problems. I have multiple health problems but have seen a big improvement doing the autoimmune approach diet by Sarah Ballentine (book on Amazon) with low Fodmap, vitamin and digestive supplements. I'm also working with a functional practitioner who looks at why I'm unwell and treats the cause rather than the symptoms. With a few diet and lifestyle changes i'm so much better and can enjoy music again which I hadn't done for ages with the hyperacusis and the fatigue and neurological symptoms have vastly improved. Good luck

I got hyperacusis when I was 12 - played trumpet in jazz band and sat to close to an electric bass- or it was some serious martial arts issues that happened at the same time, got nailed pretty bad in the head for about 5 round kicks so hard my helmet flew off.

It got worse as time went on- talking, silverware, sharp noises, plug in mouse detterents, deer deterents- high pitched, some frequencies of dog whistles, bass from stereos, the sink running all hurt had to stop playing music. Now I am in my late 20's and started getting skin rashes, stomach pain, fatigue just walking in walmart, sick all the time, muscle pain, joint pain, and a whole host of other symptoms - including acne, get real. Turns out my mother is diagnosed with gluten intolerance/possible celiacs and has severe iron deficiency last 5 years or so ( she is on pills for it but still never absorbs enough iron so her fingernails are gone to heck - she also had ADHD, and midlife onset allergies to pretty much everything-- which I am told may be related?). My younger brother also went through a terrible bout of stomach sickness, weight loss, and in general pain that we couldn't diagnose. Doctor after doctor. He finally went GF and is doing great, and all his allergies to pets/grasses/milk/dust went away.

I still figured my symptoms might be in my head though so I trialed a gluten free diet instead of wasting money on test. Never felt so good!!!!! Skin rashes cleared up, my stomach feels great, I never even realized how much swelling I had, and I finally have energy!!!!! Like I haven't had in years! Not to mention apparently my bad enamel on teeth is possibly due to this to. Chronic bad teeth even though I obsessed over keeping them clean go figure. And my acne is clearing up! Heck yeah!

As to GF curing my hyperacusis -- I am not a super good case study

I started feeling so terrible I had picked up some Olly mens multivitamins/magnesium citrate about a month before. Which have quite a bit of the b-vitamins you guys have already posted about. However the vitamins alone also didn't seem to do it. The most reduction in hyperacusis has definately come recently as I started the GF but I think it may be the combo of both the GF diet and the supplements.

I have noticed a definate reduction in the pain, which is still there on about 70% of sounds. But the sharp crippling pain that happened when someone dropped silverware on plates has gone down a lot. And even though sounds hurt the pain doesn't last as long like it used to. I still can't handle gunshots/concerts/or even slightly loud radio. But I can listen to my music player headphones actually on my head very low without throwing it off because it hurts so badly.

Thanks for posting by the way, you are pretty much the only result that comes back on google about this. I am anxious/excited to see how this goes for me. Though I would miss the sounds of water moving under ice, that is pretty neat.

Sorry about the long post, I figure the more info the better in case someone else has the same problems. If my hyperacusis goes away after this whole thing I am going to be so jazzed!!!!!! I have been GF for about a month and on supplements for about 2 months.

Good luck everyone!!!
