Levothyroxine and coeliac disease
It would be best if you post this on the Thyroid community of Healthunlocked. More knowledge of levo there.
Go to 'My hub' to change community.
Your problem is not with the levo, but with the excipients (things they add to make it into pills etc). Brands are different and react differently for different people. There are 2 which don't work for me.
Vencamil/Aristo contains 'sodium starch glycolate type A'. I'm not coeliac but I am sensitive to wheat and oats. With Vencamil I get the same symptoms as before I was diagnosed with wheat/oats sensitivity.
Most of the brands contain maize starch which should be gluten free.
I haven't come across a brand called Mand.
I think you should ask the manufacturer Cass, you could do this direct or via the pharmacy which dispensed it. Let us know how you get on as lots of us take it 😊
The pharmacist can help you with that.
It depends on manufacturer, you can contact them with med botyle abd they can tell you.
Here is a breakdown of the ingredients of Levothyroxine;
Levothyroxine (T4) sodium has an empirical formula of C15H10I4N NaO4 • H2O, molecular weight of 798.86 g/mol (anhydrous). Colloidal silicon dioxide, lactose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, acacia and sodium starch glycolate, D&C Yellow No. 10 Aluminum Lake, FD&C Yellow No. 6 Aluminum Lake.
I reacted adversely to this thyroid med and probably because of the corn starch, and synthetic dyes.
