Hypothyroidism
Hi sammie27
My understanding is that you CAN eat the veggies mentioned - as long as you eat them in moderation (i.e not every day); and don't eat them raw (go easy on the coleslaw!).
I think it has something to do with the thyroid needing iodine and these veges inhibiting the uptake and use of iodine in the body.
I don't have thyroid issues but I think that as long as you have an iodine rich diet you'll probably be okay (however, I'm also willing to be educated by those who know better from firsthand experience!).
Maybe you could add just one of the vegetables mentioned back into your diet - to see how you feel? If you react negatively then take it back out again. Or add a second if you feel okay.
Best of luck.
Thanks for that just didn't want to go mad and eat alot of veg to then find out it was making my thyroid worse.
That's very understandable. It's very often a case of trial and error diet wise (gluten excepted - never eat that!), to eliminate those secondary things that don't work well for the individual. It's common for coeliac's to have other intolerances.
I avoid soya because it gives me fatigue and dairy because it makes me feel dizzy. You've just made me wonder if there could be a possible link with soya and my throid that's not significant enough to be picked up on the standard thyroid blood test.
Thanks!
You are very welcome thanks for your reply. Another thing i read was going gluten free helps the thyroid. Since going gluten free the last week iv started feeling really hot and my whole body is pulsating I had this before so they decreased my thyroxine so im going to try that for a week see how I get on. Maybe now my body is absorbing the thyroxine better now that im on the diet.
