Hi Rose, here's a link about E-no's and you want to check out citric acid E330, it is interesting what they say about citric acid which may also contain E621 MSG.

It was very good of someone to buy you a wheat free hamper and it could be something else that has upset you and this is worth bearing in mind as we have all jumped to conclusions sometimes blaming the dreaded wheat or gluten, So I think I'd be tempted to try the chutney again.

And I hope the cramps are better soon.

Does it contain malt vinegar, wheat glucose syrup or caramel E150? They are all said by coeliac uk to be ok but all give me a bad reaction.

No but from what I can understand from reading about it online, it is the base of vinegar, so it's watered down as a percentage of 5% approx. all the things you said, I think I can't have either, because I am allergic to wheat, ( also barley and rye, the consultant believes) and I think vinegar, unless it's wine or balsamic is cereal based.

Thanks for your help

malt vinegar has a certain amount of barley in it and some balsamic vinegar (especially cheap stuff) has caramel E150 colouring in it. Spirit (white) vinegar, the commonest in convenience food, is OK. Good luck!

Thanks that helps me a lot, I'll add acetic acid to the list.

With Wheat Allergy, Apple Cider Vinegar should be safe.

Yup, I've reacted to every vinegar but coconut vinegar which I buy here (US) from Amazon. I've reached that point where I follow the "no extra ingredients" rule no matter what!
