It depends... When I originally went for the gastroscopy having already started to cut out gluten the dr said I needed to eat bread again argh, as it may not show otherwise. So that was a quick turnaround?

If you are thinking long term my own dr said I would start to feel much better quickly on a gf diet, which I did, -a couple of months and symptoms eased a lot-but that I would not recover totally for a couple of years. That seemed right as two years later I was bouncing around!

I've been on a gluten-free/wheat-free diet for 5 yrs now & i still feel like crap, severe lethargy & Very Severe Migraines is an understatement lately!

Hi Scree1972, that sounds awful! Have you sought further medical advice? Could be the gluten problem was masking some other underlying problem? I hope you get some help and start to see improvement soon. Good luck.

It's possible you have an additional intolerance or more, such as lactose.

Thanks for response , I have been off gluten now for 10 days but on day 7 made a mistake and splashed some worcsester sauce on cheese on toast (gluten free bread) then 5 hours late went trotting to the loo 4 times , not good, was amazed how quickly the gluten got me , but feel better already , lost 6 lbs and have more energy , so committed to it now .

Varying people have varying reactions. Some coeliacs will become ill moments after gluten contact, where others have no reaction at all. Which is the better is open for debate. If you don't have a reaction then you don't know you have been glutened. As opposed to being very ill.

To get it completely out its 6 weeks. However, if you've just been diagnosed it will take much longer, as well as restoring your intestines to how they should be. If your still being ill though I would consult your doctor as it may be something else, or you might be eating something that is contaminated,
