Stop eating gluten. It will only damage your health and shorten your life.

Yep, sorry to say but that is the only answer.

There are plenty of gluten free alternatives - as a start pick a food you like and try to get a gluten free version of it and get used to it. Over time switch others over.

You will find you feel so much better when gluten free over time the thought of continuing to eat gluten is not worth the discomfort and long term damage.

Why do you want to eat wheat? Have you just been diagnosed? Are you at the stage where you find it difficult to believe that you are affected by gluten?

The problem you will face is not just damage that is unseen but you will find that you will develop other 'allergy-type' effects and the list will grow and grow. It may seem easy to give into cravings for something that you have eaten all of your life but it is important to find out the consequences and really appreciate what can happen if you give way to temptation. Personally, the only thing that I miss are currant buns and iced buns, which I rarely had anyway. It really pays to focus your mind into everything that you are able to eat without damaging your body. There's an awful lot of wonderful stuff available if you take the time to look for it, check it out and taste it! In the meantime perhaps read the Wiki content of Coeliac Disease it is a good start to help you change the pathway from eating wheat, barley and rye! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coeli... I'm sure you'll find foodstuffs that you really enjoy and find more nourishing than wheat if you look around. Good luck!

Hi Harriet, I hope you read the above advice first - though they haven't said the cancer word. Aren't you lucky that it only makes you bloat? Of course the bloating is only a feeling you are having from the inflammation. Are you in starvation mode prior to this wheat binge? Part of your wording sounds addictive, you sound as though you have the same feelings about wheat as someone might have about drugs or gambling. If that is the case you may need to get help for an addictive personality.

If that's not the case, sometimes people who constantly crave carbs might be on the verge of hypoglycemia or diabetes, so it might be that you need to adjust your diet, maybe starting by eating a good protein with breakfast and lunch. Don't run on empty. We all need to eat regularly. Many members on here have written about hypoglycemia

Next time you feel pushing a a nice spongey wheat product into your mouth - look at it and imagine the nice gooey cancer it will be helping to form.

I agree with all the answers, it is hard I know, all that wheaty stuff is so tempting, but you really have to be strong for your own health and well being.

I have been coeliac for twenty odd years and am still tempted but I dont.

So be strong youll feel much better for it!!!!

If you are struggling to find certain foods(because of the taste) - pop up a list of gluten free foods that you are not so keen on - there's enough people here who can share thoughts on alternatives.

Gluten free foods are a bit like Marmite, in that they are either really nice or disgusting (and rarely in between), but having been diagnosed a coeliac for 9 years, like many here I've tried pretty much everything and rarely now have to make a compromise on taste/quality.
