Morning,
it looks like my husband has tumour regrowth. A final perfusion scan on Thursday to confirm. The neurosurgeon has advised that next steps could be an awake craniotomy.
Does anyone have any experience of this?
Thanks

My husband had this operation when he initially got his tumour. It was very successful and precise and removed all the tumour. It was done awake to ensure no impact to speech etc. He had various preparatory sessions to map out his brain. During the operation they keep you conscious only briefly. It is fantastic if they are offering the operation to you for the regrowth as they must see chance of success. (My husband was offered a second operation, but then they said no as he was losing movement in his leg and gave him Avastin instead. He died 4 months later.)
Hello Daybreak2
I had my crionotomy at St Georges, Tooting, London, mid December. Not awake but they did explain why. My tumour was on right side and if it had been on left side they would have done an awake procedure to ensure so far as is possible that no damage was done to the area of the brian that controls speech.

All best wishes for a successful op.
Hey, Actually my father recently went through an awake craniotomy last week. It’s been pretty overwhelming since the surgery was very long. But it really does help preserve critical functions of the brain such as motor function, speech etc.
he’s in recovery right now, but it’s going well so far. Hope to start radiotherapy and chemo soon.
