Should I take more than 6 chemotherapy cycles?

I have completed the standard of treatment for a GBM - surgery, followed by daily radiation and oral chemotherapy for six and a half weeks, then a six-month regimen of oral chemotherapy given five days a month.

Some doctors are advising to continue chemotherapy for 12 cycles or till my body is reacting well. While others are saying 6 are enough for now. If in future I again fall again then they will see what to do.

Would like to understand if there are people choose for more than 6 cycles and what were their experience?

Hi, I haven't heard of that. In Spain the consultant mentioned other cycles only if the tumour came back.

Hi

I realize your post was a year ago, but wanted to respond as this is relevant and of interest.

I am in the US. My GBM “journey” started 6/2022. Had craniotomy, then the 6 weeks of rad/chemo. 30 day break and then started maint treatments. Just completed 7th cycle of planned 12 cycles. Platelet fluctuation may impede full run. We’ll see.

I believe six months is standard. 12 months can be prescribed if you have certain(??) markers. Don’t recall details.

At this time, doing well. Some cumulative fatigue. Will follow this regimen as best possible as it seems to provide most hope against tough prognosis.

Wishing you success in the battle.

D
