Diplopia

I had a trabulectomy revision on my right eye after the first trabulectomy failed.

After the bleb revision I got diplopia, double vision, and the surgeon says they they can now alter the muscles controlling the eye and this may help the diplopia - a sort of strabismus or squint operation.

My right eye was always weaker than the right, I have Fuch's heterocyclic syndrome.

I would appreciate advice in two areas:

(1) is the right eye robust enough to cope with another operation? This would be the third.

(2) what are the chances if it did work that it will lessen the diplopia, currently the diplopia disappears if I turn my head to the right, if I turn my head to the lift the right eye vision 'detaches' and drops down causing double vision or diplopia.

Thanks for any advice!

Hi. Unfortunately this isn't something we or any forum member can really advise on as it is personal to you. You would therefore need to speak to your consultant about this, as we are all different when it comes to surgeries.

Those all sound like very important questions to ask your doctor, especially number one. I know there are prism glasses that can help with double vision but not in all situations. Another possible option to more surgery. Good luck, God bless.

Hi Mimi987, i had a trab 5 years ago in my left eye, and the doctor told me to press on the lower eyelids twice a day for life to keep the bleb open. Did you get the same instruction from your doctor?

Hi Weinvic I’ve had the same op but no instructions like this.

Hi Fudgely, thank you for your reply. It is helpful to me because I was thinking of stopping with that practice, and I needed more info to make my decision. Appreciate your input.

Hello, I also have a bit of double vision in my weaker and operated eye (tube implant) When I asked about it, I was told something along the lines of eyes not working properly together/not in sync because of the poor vision in the weak eye. I have learnt to live with it especially as it does vary from day to day, also seems to depend on whether I am wearing my reading glasses, looking at a distance (without glasses) etc etc. I don’t want another operation if I can help it, especially as there is no guarantee it would cure it. I no longer drive, so that is one less thing to worry about as far as dodgy vision goes. I’m sure an optician could sell me some glasses which might help, but as I said, I’ve more or less learnt to accept it. I’m just grateful I still have a little vision in my “bad” eye. All this probably doesn’t help you, but I just wanted to share my own experiences with you. I hope you get it sorted satisfactorily and wish you all the best for the future.
