Cataract and migs outcome

Hi my surgery experience is from trabs and trab revisions and like you one of my first questions was how long will it last. Unfortunately as you find reading these pages everyones journey is slightly different and individuals reactions to surgeries likewise 😔. I embarked on trabs to both eyes hoping for 5 years (due to my age) before things would need to be tweeked. Three years on, one is working well, other has been more problematic from the start and required interventions. In short my consult (who I trust completely - and that's the key here) said this was my best option for my situation. OK one has had to be tweeked but both eyes are currently still the most stable from damage they have been. When this changes there are other options which 🤞 will provide a better outcome than the alternative of doing nothing. If you haven't already can I suggest you search YouTube, 'Glaucoma Treatment Ladder' this is really useful in explaining the treatments. I watched the previous version and will watch the latest but assume both have similar content. I think it leaves you better placed to understand your treatment and ask questions about your options. Throughout it also reiterates your right to be involved in your treatment, to ask questions, ask for a second opinion if you are unsure and ultimately have confidence in how your glaucoma is being managed.
Search YouTube for Glaucoma UK for other really useful webinars 👍.
Sorry bit of a ramble, but hope it's useful ☺️, best wishes

Hello, in some cases of narrow-angle glaucoma, combining cataract surgery with minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) might be considered, but it depends how narrow your angles are. The suitability depends on the individual case and the surgeon's assessment. Cataract surgery, which involves removing the natural lens and replacing it with a thinner artificial one, can widen the space in front of the iris and potentially relieve narrow-angle issues. Best wishes.
Hi
I had cataract and replacement lens for my narrow angle glaucoma back in 2008 and 2010 in the hope it would prevent my pressure from rising. The procedure worked well for a good number of years but then started to rise again and I have been back on drops for 3/4 years. But as Teg252 says, each journey is so personal to you that what happened to me might be totally different in your case. All I can say is that for about 6 years the procedures did the job that was expected. Thank you Teg252 for the information re the Glaucoma ladder - I have not heard of that resource and I will certainly take a look.
Did it open angles and what are your pressures now please
I am sorry but I cannot answer your first question as nobody in the clinic ever said that was the outcome - I assume it must have done or else I would not have been drop free for many years maybe? And regarding my pressures, I am always a bit reluctant to say what they are as they are so dependent on other factors such as time of day and thickness of cornea etc. but they can vary from 19 to 23. I would like to point out that I use varifocal specs, can still drive, have no other issues re my sight at present, can still participate in all my hobbies and activities and I am in my mid 70’s.
