re-assurance after trabeculotamy

my last surgical procedure was to take out the last stitches from my operation on 16 th September. The week following that my eye filled with a liquid which I was told was conjectival fluid . I had several sleepless nights with haloes of light in my eye. Although I was re-assured that there was nothing wrong, I only felt today that it was a lot better. I am now optimistic that my ‘ bleb’ is working.

you do get ups and downs after a Trabulectomy and my pressure went to 3 and I got all sorts of weird effects but it did settle though I still have to use drops but at least the pressure is stable and not much optic nerve damage despite initial pressures before op of 65 plus.

Im glad you are feeling better . This recovery is so up and down one week everything is going okay then the next week everything can be different. Take care of yourself and rest when possible

it’s quite a journey isn’t it. I’m 6 weeks into my second trebeculectomy and 12 into my first. The healing has been so different between both. I never felt like they were working properly but as time went on they are now almost working perfectly. My eyes always get a lot of excess fluid and various different side effects particularly from the pred forte eye drops. Trust in your specialist as they know what they are looking at. Feel free to ask anything about your recovery as Iv only recently undergone the procedure myself too.

My first operation was bad up until 8 weeks with terrible vision and almost overnight regained to what my sight was before. Sometimes it just takes time.

Yep .I had a Trab op in my right eye last May .Recovery did take a while and not being able to go to the gym done me in but ,stick with it because it;s well worth it ,my pressure in that eye is now a constant 6 unfortunately, because of that op (i'm told) it promoted the growth of a cataract which i've just had done and am recovering from.Have now got to have the left eye done owing to the pressure but ,so be it .

Good luck and stick with it .

It's helpful to hear from other people that recovery from trabeculectomy can be so variable, and very worrying, but does improve. There have been a few times when I've been really pessimistic and thought, ' Right, I'm just going to have to accept that the operation has been a failure'. However, the pressure did settle. I have fingers crossed that all will still be OK at my check up in December.
