Hi. I have had glaucoma for some 30 years now, managing the condition primarily with drops with the odd laser cut to help release pressures. However last July (2023) I experienced a full on explosion of high pressures in both eyes. Unable to control with a cocktail of drops I was fast tracked to the operating theatre where I had micrshunts inserted with a gap of eight days between my left and right eyes. I have my pressures under control now but this has not stopped my left eye from deteriorating further. The hospital can not explain why this should happen but it seems to come with the territory as not everything is yet understood about the disease, hence research is still vital.

Hello. Im sorry to read that you had this experience, but happy that the microshunt surgery has been successful.
At Glaucoma UK we know the importance of research and continue to fund glaucoma research studies.

The possible short-term variation in eye pressure doesn't appear to be generally understood, meaning that pressures can increase substantially between visits to the glaucoma clinic and visits to the optician.
I've increased the frequency of visits to my optician in an attempt to avoid being "ambushed" by a sudden increase in pressure.
I had istents fitted last year, I now realise that I should have had them fitted years ago, although I do not know how long the istents last,
