Shadow in the corner of my eye

Hello,Has anyone had experience of suddenly developing a shadow in your vision? I did lose vision 35 years ago and it was the result of swelling in the optic nerve. It is stable now however I feel something similar has happened in the other eye

It is as if I have a smear of grease on my glasses lens

I have been to SpecSavers and been checked out; a scan. dilated pupils to.look at the back of my eyes. All is normal ;optic nerve, blood vessels , no holes or tears. It is all very mysterious. I also had a check up at the Eye hospital in January, all OK even the field vision test.

My question is, has anyone experienced anything like this? Do you think I should go to A and E at the Eye hospital? Do they have more sophisticated scans?

Thank you for any response or insight

Hi there. I would go straight to A & E if you are seeing shadowing in your vision. I understand that you have had it checked out by your optician but it is best to be safe than sorry!

Not really a shadow. But my hole in my vision was missed by an optician for quite a while (like 18 mths) despite me mentioning it. An eventual referral to the hospital confirmed I wasn’t imagining it after all. So I’d get a second opinion.

Did you mention the shadow at your hospital check in January? Perhaps a phone call to The Secretary to say you’re concerned about it. Or better still go to A&E as advised by Kieron.

Better to be safe than sorry!

Definitely go to eye a & e. Eyesight is too precious to take any risks. I have a shadow which I eventually realised (and the opthalmologist agreed) was a loss of peripheral vision. My glaucoma developed very quickly.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the trouble to reply.I did go to the Eye Hospital A and E yesterday and a scan did reveal swelling of the optic nerve. All blood tests were normal so optical neuropathy is the likely diagnosis . I am being referred to neurology for further scanning.Hopefully it will improve and I will get use to it although it is very disturbing.Has anyone on this forum experienced optical neuropathy?

If I hadn't gone to A and E I would not know what is going on.There is no treatment for this condition so hopefully the swelling will go down and my vision will imprve.

Thank you all once again
