Trabeculectomy

(1) On 17th February 2017 I had an operation on my left eye for a cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation and aqvesys, also known as xen. The operation did not work. (2) On 9th August 2017 (with another surgeon) I had a trabeculectomy op on my left eye. (3) At the end of the month I am due to have a revision of the trabeculectomy (on the left eye) for the removal of the xen implant and that portion of the drainage bleb while trying to maintain the trabelulectomy. There is quite a significant drainage bleb over the left xen implant as well and the trabeculectomy and the two blebs have more or less fused together.

It goes without saying that I am not looking forward to this operation, but it is a question of "do or d(eye).

Grateful if any one who has gone through a revision of a trabeculectomy could get back to me on their experience.

My best wishes and thanks

I've not been through the same - just a trab which ultimately failed. I then had an Ahmed valve inserted.

But just posting to say best wishes for the latest op and hope all goes well with it.

I am sorry to hear that your trap didn't work. How are you doing with the Ahmed valve? Is it the same as the "infocus" stent that was pioneered by Ike Ahmed in Canada? Many thanks thanks for your good wishes.

Hi

I'm not really familiar with other stents to be honest. The man who invented mine is Abdul Mateen Ahmed.

I had it inserted in 2012 as a last resort as the inflammatory Fuchs Cyclitis I have (which Glaucoma is secondary to) caused complications with other procedures.

It seems to have worked well and every time I go for check ups they say it's in a great position. But I do still have to use two glaucoma drops alongside it.

I keep meaning to ask my consultant if it's likely to ever need replacing. Hopefully not!

Thanks for replying. Whatever works is good and you seem to be in a good position. All good wishes
