Hi everyone Happy New Year to you all.

Can anyone answer my question if it's safe to have a steroid injection for frozen shoulder if you have open angle glaucoma?

Don't know what to do.

Many thanks in advance.

hi Callie77

I’m sorry I don’t know the answer, but I would email your consultant’s secretary and ask for their advice. Good luck

It shouldn't affect your glaucoma. But as Nala2509 has mentioned. The best thing to do is contact the eye secretary so they can check with your consultant and get back to you.

I have had a steroid injection for frozen shoulder and I have closed angle glaucoma . Tell the person administering the injection beforehand they usually ask you about other medications and conditions you have . Mine didn’t affect my glaucoma in any way but it did help my frozen shoulder pain. Good luck

I had a steroid injection in my hip for arthritis and had my eye pressure checked beforehand, the hospital Dr said it doesn't cause a problem as the steroid is only in the injected area

A few people are steroid reactors - that is cortico steroids run the risk of increasing eye pressure. I'm one of those people and I avoid steroids now. However, I think it is not all that common for this to be the case and most people with Glaucoma are fine with steroids. As others have said check with your consultant. I have been told that even with me, one off injections should be fine, it is prolonged use that's more of an issue. Hope all goes well.
