DVLA and time to hear decisions
About 10 days in my case. Returned a signed form as requested along with my licence and now await my medical licence valid for 3 years. Three/four days after posting the DVLA called me and we went through the declaration process over the phone. Thereafter he said he would process my new licence that day without waiting for the paperwork to arrive their end. I was told it would be here in a week to 10 days
I’m not sure quite what you’re asking because it’s likely your paper work will lead to them using their partner, SpecSavers, to conduct a field vision test and a Snellen test. I think their decision is based on those two tests.
Generally, they will send you a list of your local providers with instructions to book the tests. The results get sent back electronically and you usually get a decision within days - to a week.
I had my result with 10 days and my new license followed closely behind.
Then I’d expect their reply within a week. I hope it’s pleasing. Do not despair if they send you back. For reasons totally unknown to myself, I was recalled twice, even though SpecSavers could have conducted more tests at the time, had they been unsatisfactory! Repeating a test doesn’t mean you have a problem. On the third occasion I told SpecSavers how nervous I was, because so much was at stake, and she actually told me, I’d seen all the lights!
In my case I think I may have been over-pressing the button due to nerves!
I had my test in October and it took less than 2 weeks to get a letter from DVLA. They also phoned me before I received it to ask if it had arrived. They said they could issue my 3 yr licence before they received my old one back as long as I had received their letter. You then still must return your old licence and their acceptance form. Hope it goes well for you.
Thank you
That’s really helpful
It’s been 3 weeks now so hopefully will hear soon
It’s quite an anxious wait
Me too! Been waiting nearly 3 weeks for a decision from the DVLA. It’s so stressful not knowing the outcome.
Anyone else waiting this long?
Be nearly 5 weeks for me
I’ve emailed to check progress , so just waiting to hear back.
I guess these things take time as no doubt they are extremely busy, but yes I agree it’s an anxious wait
Hi Crafty-gran,
Good idea! I think I will do the same and email them.
Wishing you a good outcome from the DVLA.
