Hello,

The DVLA normally allow for a few misses but 7 is quite a lot of misses. But until you receive the decision from the DVLA you will not know whether you have passed the standards expected of them.

Did you have your eyes tested individually? The reason I ask is, that a different visual field test is done for the DVLA, both eyes are tested at the same time

It was both eyes DVLA the missedones were on the same side bottom left . Some I missed first i got 2nd time some I got it time I missed 2nd time . So the over lap I think was 3 or 4 . Not sure if I will pass . But people drive with one eye so fingers crossed

Did your visual field test look similar to this?

An Esterman visual fields printout

Hi, there's more information below on what is generally considered acceptable for driving if that helps but it shouldn't take too long to hear from DVLA - I got mine in just under two weeks

:gov.uk/guidance/visual-diso...

(I've also cut and pasted it below)

Defect affecting central area only (Esterman within 20 degree radius of fixation)

Only for the purposes of licensing Group 1 car and motorcycle driving:

the following are generally regarded as acceptable central loss

scattered single missed points

a single cluster of up to 3 adjoining points

the following are generally regarded as unacceptable (‘significant’) central loss:

a cluster of 4 or more adjoining points that is either wholly or partly within the central 20° area

loss consisting of both a single cluster of 3 adjoining missed points up to and including 20° from fixation, and any additional separate missed points within the central 20° area

any central loss that is an extension of hemianopia or quadrantanopia of size greater than 3 missed points

Defect affecting the peripheral areas – width assessment

Only for the purposes of licensing Group 1 car and motorcycle driving:

the following will be disregarded when assessing the width of field

a cluster of up to 3 adjoining missed points, unattached to any other area of defect, lying on or across the horizontal meridian

a vertical defect of only single-point width but of any length, unattached to any other area of defect, which touches or cuts through the horizontal meridian

Thank you for doing this. Very helpful. What is classed as the 20% area ? Is it the whole picture? Thank you

If you look at the picture Charliesaid posted then it's the area inside the small blue circle at the centre. Basically 20° out from the centre point

Oh thats a relief. So not the width of the whole test...thank you

I think outside the 20 deg zone the "peripheral area" rules in the second half of the guidelines apply but obviously final decision is with DVLA
