DVLA medical backlog
Sent mine off in May, not heard a thing from them, I couldn't renew on line so sent it off, and i read somewhere there is around a million backlog due to the virus and strikes !
I'm waiting for the result of my eyesight test taken at the beginning of July. I was told that it could take up to six weeks to arrive. I've since read that the DVLA has had more cases of Covid than any other government department as more employees were forced to go into work. Employees and management are in dispute over this. It all sounds rather chaotic I'm afraid.
My DVLA field test was done at Specsavers on 19 April 2021 and I am still waiting for a response from the DVLA.
Good heavens! Have you chased them? So even if you failed the test you can still drive. How long does section 88 cover you for. I presume by now your license has expired! What surprised me is that, this problem has hardly been mentioned in the news. And now the medical team has decided on a full month long strike. So little chance of any licences for some time. Jim
I recently received the reminder to renew my 3 year medical license. I’ve renewed online hoping it’ll be quicker than postal. Doesn’t sound promising from the posts on here. I’m guessing I’m in for a pretty long wait then. My license expires end of September so I guess I better have a chat with my insurers to see if they’ll cover me in the interim. 😞
I’m sure they will. Read section 88 of the code. I found that the “fields test” by Specsavers was within a few days. The problem appears to be that anything controlled by computer output is normal. The problem lies with the fact that your medical results are checked by a human. And all of those are on work to rule or actually on strike!Keep posting and see if you get your license before expiry of your current one.
Good luck, even if you fail the fields test you can carry on driving until they bother to inform you!
There must be hundreds of us medical cases that shouldn’t be driving!!
What a shambles.
Contact your MP, it is the only way. I had been waiting since November and by February my licence had expired. In April I contacted my MP. The appointment for SpecSavers arrived and I had my new licence within two weeks. I know this has worked for others. Our MPs need to know that this continues to be a problem. My MP said that this is what I should advise other people to do as their MP is there to support you in this sort of problem with a government agency. Good luck.
Thank you. I contacted my MP Sheryll Murray last week by email. No reply yet. I just hope she manages as well as yours.
OMG what a fiasco, government need to step in and sort this. Visual Fields tests done by any opticians or hospitals and look at recruiting some extra staff or temp staff to clear the backlogs in licensing .You hear on the news about the shortage of lorry drivers , I’m sure there are these and others who drive for a living who are at the mercy of DVLA backlogs .
This is it now , backlogs, waiting lists etc....across the board, scary times as it’s never ending isn’t it ! 😩🤷♀️🤦♀️ .
