I’m very settled with a great GP and local eye hospital in Edinburgh, but am contemplating the possibility of moving to Essex - probably Colchester - to be closer to family.
But I have a fear of the unknown when it comes to moving to new health services (partly just generally because they seem to vary so much around the country, but also in moving to England where the NHS seems to have been pared back much more to the bone than in Scotland).
Is there anybody here who’s based in Colchester? Which hospital do you go to for your consultant appointments? How is it? How regularly do you get seen?
Thank you.

Nearest to your home from those two. Anywhere else contact the Consultant and ask if you can be referred to him first then get your GP to write the referral letter. They are obliged to do it if that is your wish. As I understand it the Consultants at Ipswich and Colchester are the same - they work between the two. But check that - may be on the website as things change!
Colchester and Ipswich are combined now...Ipswich were not offering surgery when I needed it - only drops (which were not working as had been changed to a cheaper one - Clinic cancelled on one occasion and never advised when back on - annual reviews spasmodic)). Worth investigating futher before you move as may have changed.....
