Hi - I have monopost drops for eye pressure (no glaucoma diagnosis ... yet) and would like to be able to check my eye pressures from time to time in between annual hospital appointments. I am considering buying a tonometer, but think I might get a bit obsessive if I do that!
I have my eyes tested in between the annual hospital appointments - so pressure tests end up being every 6 months or so, but do any forum users have any tips on how to have pressure tests other ways? Thanks!

As you don't have a diagnosis of glaucoma, it is unlikely that you would need to keep checking your eye pressure. You are having them checked in between hospital appointments at the opticians which should help you. The home tonometer's are costly and I think you would be wasting money, in your case. They are good, used correctly and often short term. They can become an obsession to use.
There aren't any other ways to measure your eye pressures.
I totally agree with Helens reply to you bout pressure testing machines can be addictive . My husband got a blood pressure monitor some years back & I have checked my BP waaay too many times and I am certain has caused me more stress and worry. I too wondered bout eye pressure tests at home as high pressure scares me....maybe monitor would potentially cause me more stress! It is hard I agree this pressure/glaucoma is a constant worry- I too am pre glaucoma and I totally relate to your concerns. Best wishes.
I was on Monopst for 6 wk then had slt laser 2 wks ago & told to cease drops from then - my follow up with consultant not til 31 May - so i know the concern re pressures - it is very worrying & stress makes it worse!
Again opticians like a lottery -nice if you can find an obliging one in our situation. i do wish you well.
To add to the thread. I am one of the people who brought a home tonometer (for very complicated reasons, if you’re interested look at my previous posts 😀). I used it twice a day religiously for about a year. Following a trab and other interventions I now only check them about once a week. In fact, I’m currently on holiday for a week and have left it at home for the first time - it’s liberating! I would agree with Helen, they are very expensive and it doesn’t sound like you need one. My suggestion would be to make friends with your optician (I had to change to an independent to get the support I needed, Boots were rubbish in my time of need). They can check your pressures in between hospital visits. Mine did a couple of times before I brought my tonometer. Good luck
Thank you so much Ritualhazard - that's really interesting - I'm glad you're able to give you and the tonometer a holiday from each other. Yes - a good optician sounds the best bet. Many thanks, and happy holiday!
