Ptosis

Hello,

This post is going to sound really trivial and vain, however I promise I am not at all in the slightest.

I am 33 and have recently had double presserflo micro shunts fitted and we are 9 months on and my eyes still feel tender when I touch my eye lids. My consultants response was not to touch them then 🤣 but he said they were ok.

However my eyelids have definetley drooped following the operation in which he agreed, but not to the point he will do anything about them which is fair enough but it doesn’t help how I feel about them.

I feel like they look so much more closed than before, and I look sooo tired 24/7. I hate having my photos taken with my kids or anything like that as they look even worse on pictures.

Has anybody been through the same and any ideas on how I can fix this without the 2k private surgery ?

Is eyelash lift allowed? 9 months after surgery.

He suggested contact lenses will make my eyes appear wider but I don’t want to wear them all the time in fear of them rubbing the bleb

All ideas welcome. Xx

Good afternoon,

If droopy eyelids are at a point where they affect your vision, the NHS offers a lift lid so it would be best to speak to your health professional for that. This is also available privately.

An eyelash lift is not something we could advise on.

People can wear contact lenses after surgery unless told otherwise. Soft ones are recommended over gas permeable ones, as these can aggravate the bleb.

Hello Bec8891.

Interested to hear about your ptosis following preserflo shunts.

I had a similar response from my eye surgeon, but he also said that it could gradually improve. Only one eye was a problem and I cannot remember how long I had to wait to see a change, as I think it was VERY gradual maybe over the first year. I did tend to forget about it after a while.

It is over two years now since my last op and I feel back to normal. My husband could never really see the droopy lid and I feel that I noticed it much more than anyone else.

So I hope that your lids may slowly revert to nearer your pre op state.

Best wishes

Hello Bec8891

I too have ptosis following eye surgery and I know how you feel. I get quite depressed about it as it does make me look tired and I had nice bright eyes before the ops. Now I don’t even wear eye make up for fear of infection. My husband is ok about it, but I still hate the way I look now. Apparently it can gradually improve, so don’t give up hope. xx
