I was prescribed Latanoprost for one eye. After two doses I experienced severe pain in the eye which lasted at least eight hours. I stopped taking the drops and the bad pain subsided. But I still feel mild discomfort in the eye and it feels a bit gritty. At night I feel mild discomfort in the eye and temple. I obviously asked for help and I have been prescribed a different eyedrop which has yet to be dispensed. I am nervous to start the new drops. Has anyone else experienced bad pain associated with glaucoma eyedrops? If I have another condition (dry eye, for example) would these drops cause more harm than good? Getting answers from clinicians seems impossible. Took four days to get any sort of reaction.

Adverse reaction to eyedrops
Hello Wychwood58. Yes, indeed. Can totally relate to your post. I was started on Latanoprost for IOP for both eyes and like you, got eye pain and knew something wasn't right. Have you had cataract surgery? And do you have high myopia? Seems to be more common with these conditions. I did some research and found that a few of us can get cystoid macular oedema with using latanoprost. Do some google research and you will find it. I'm just a lay person but when it comes to our eyes, the better informed we are the more chance we have of retaining our sight. I presented all the evidence to my hospital specialist and was changed to Azopt drops. Am still on steroids to try and reduce the swellings. Be your own researcher - pain is our body's way of saying something isn't right and our eyes are too precious to believe everything we are told or prescribed is correct.
