I have had glaucoma for 10 years and have had numerous drops and 3 lasers the last laser was last week and pressure was 11 in left eye and 13 in right eye the lowest reading ever ! Hopefully this will remain until my next appointment. My readings on hospital visits were between 20 & 22 and damage to right eye was worrying but is under control left eye is stable. My question is do I still need to go for check ups every 6 months to opticians as the hospital are thorough with tests each time I go. My glasses are fine I’ve had them years and my eye sight has only changed slightly not enough to warrant new glasses I hardly wear Thank you

optician appointments
Hi there. It's a personal decision, some people do go more regularly for their own peace of mind, but if your glaucoma is well-maintained and monitored then there is no real need to.
My history is very similar to yours. 10 years and laser to both eyes. I asked the same question and was told that I should see optician regularly as they carry out a wider range of tests than the hospital.
The last optometrist I saw, said that they do a much more complex eye examination to check overall eye health, than is done in a glaucoma clinic.
thank you for your replies I will go as I could do with new specs thanks once again
At my last optician's eye test they said I had blepharitis which the hospital hadn't noticed, and the Blephasol they recommended seemed to help with dry eye, so it can be worth it.
