I have just been advised by my consultant that surgery is the best option to keep my pressures lower. Although not horrendous they are higher than they would like. I am 42 and really worried about the whole operation, any advice or good news on having this done? Thanks in advance

hi lememddoooo

I’ve had trabs both eyes has so far seems to be successful the recovery is quite easy I only had maybe a week or two of painkillers ( Panadol & nurofin) my pressures were quite high hitting close to 40 pre trabs and have been since the op low 12& 7 I’ve lost a bit of vision in my right eye as the glaucoma was quite severe so my specialist says .but can still see just bit of tunnel vision in the right eye . I’m about 3/4 months post op and have regular check ups with my specialist. The op it’s self I chose to go a general anaesthetic as I was quite anxious and scarred and don’t regret my decision one bit . U have about 3/4 months of regular drops after ur surgery and regular checks .I have dry eyes as my tear ducts don’t work so well after trabs but it seems all is going ok so far so good . It may just save ur sight so definitely do the operation

I am over 70 now and about 3 years ago had to have a trabulectomy in both eyes ( with about a six month gap between ops) The recovery was quite straight forward and my eye pressures are well down now about 9 and 12

Hi - I had this operation done about three years ago. Took about 45 mins under local anesthetic. Recovery about 6 weeks to get vision back to normal. Pressure been fine ever since.

In the high thirties and weren't responding to drops. I had the surgery done under local only. I'd had a lens replacement before and so knew what to expect a bit. Didn't feel anything other than eye being moved around.

I’m around similar age if not slightly younger than you. I had a trabeculetomy in left eye last September and right eye in February. My pressures pre surgery was about 16 and consultant’s target for my eyes is around 10.

Everyone’s healing journey will be different. For me my left eye was quite sensitive to light for 6 months. Unfortunately due to being younger than the average glaucoma patient we heal faster which meant i’ve been using anti-inflammatory eye drops for a while and there’s scarring over the bleb which is raising my eye pressure. For my right eye they were able to undo the stiches and give me more anti scaring medication but the left eye needs to go back into theatre to do the procedure (still waiting for a procedure date).

Sight wise I’m struggling with a bit of haziness and occasional blurring in both eyes.

All the best with your surgery!

i’ll do my best to answer them if you have further questions

Hi all .I'm currently waiting for surgery and am nearly 70 .My pressures are around 20 ish in each eye and the consultant wants them lower .I'm quite an active bloke and love my weight training , i'm lead to believe that i will have to lay off of training for about 3/4 weeks but ,can do treadmill, bike etc small price to pay for hopefully saving my sight .I currently take 2 types of drops , will i still have to take drops after the op once the pressures have hopefully dropped.
