Just wondering if anyone else has been able to renew their driving licence online in conjunction with a telephone interview (i.e. without having to go through the usual fields test).

Hello. This wouldnt be possible. A visual field test will need to be done to check how many lights are acknowledged and to measure the peripheral vision. Plus an acuity test is needed for distance.
You might like to take a look at my previous posting on this subject:

Note that I did get my driving licence renewed that way for another 3 years without having to do a fields test. I was just wondering whether anyone else had had the same experience. Maybe I just got lucky.
Thank you for the link.
Yes I remember your original post. We have been advised that this is a trial aimed at renewal of driving licences and renewing for the over 70's. We have not been made aware that the Specsavers test will be discontinued as there will still be people who will need to attend an instore test.
I think it all hinges on the phone interview. I was able to confirm that nothing, including medication, had changed since my previous application for renewal. My medication had in fact changed (which I mentioned) in that I had changed from normal Ganfort to preservative-free Ganfort and the chap I spoke to was happy with that. Probably it's not worth using the phone interview route if you can't declare that there haven't been any changes since the previous application.
Fingers crossed I get picked for the trial! Both my optician and consultant recently confirmed my sight is stable.
will do.
