I believe that one is able to have 3 attempts at this test if you are not happy with the first one.My question is how do know if you have done poorly on the first or second attempts. Are you allowed a printout of each test so you can select which one is sent to the DVLA? I am due to take this test shortly and would be very grateful for any assistance

DVLA Driving test
I went for a practice run at Specsavers which was £25 for the visual fields test. They did the first with glasses and I picked up the frames so I did another. Each time they printed out the result. On the day itself I did the DVLA fields test and they did the same. Remember what they’re looking for is a clear view 60 degrees either side of the centre and a 20degree uninterrupted view in the centre. There are exceptions so you can miss one or two . Read up on it. I passed by the way. Results from DVLA arrived in 2 weeks.
I did the test at Specsavers last week. I had previously done a practice test with my own optician, and saw , surprisingly, that I did slightly better without glasses, because of the glasses frame. At the actual test, I asked to do it twice, one with and one without glasses. The lady said she would send off both tests to DVLA so I didn't have to choose between them.
At my last DVLA test at Specsavers, lsat year, I was allowed 3 tests with and without my prescription glasses. I was offered more but decided that was enough. Asked for and was given printouts of each test. After 10 years of tests i have found that sometimes you are offered printouts and sometimes have to ask, depending on who does the test. Specsaver task cannot say what DVLA will decide but can say if the test is good. Maybe different if the result was marginal,
Hello. Everyone is completely correct in their replies to you. It may not be necessary to take three attempts at the test, if the first one shows, there weren't any misses. The person operating the test would inform you of this. Similarly, if you have more than 20% false positives (where you click the button when a light wasn't projected) they will get you to repeat the test. As mentioned you can also do it with and without the glasses you normally wear for driving.
Many thanks to all ,comments very helpful.I probably not take a practice run as my optictan the local spec saver does not do DVLA tests.
I was concerned about how to decide. Fortunately, as I said in a previous reply, the lady at Specsavers said she would send off both of my tests. I was given a printout of both. The DVLA criteria are quite technical so it would be difficult for an untrained person to judge. I suppose It may be obvious that a test needs to be discarded if someone has, say, a sneezing fit in the middle of the test and can see they have missed half the points. Or if they don't realise they have to keep both eyes open!Good luck with your test!
Just to say, I had my DVLA eye test 3 years ago, so another one is due soon. I found it easier to do than the NHS one because both eyes are open and I was wearing my usual specs. Only thing I'm doing in advance is visiting my usual optician and getting new lenses if required.
Last test was done by Specsavers on a Hanson 8000 or 9000. It was held in an alcove next to a busy corridor, so not ideal, but I just got on with it.
