I had a similar experience last year. After two specsavers tests I was required to go for a different test at a hospital 100 miles away. It was easier for me to take a train than drive. Is that possible for you? I think you should only drive yourself if you are familiar with the route. Otherwise you will be in a state by the time you get there, worrying about hold-ups, etc. I just took my eye drops at the normal time. The good news is that as a result of taking this test the D V LA gave me a licence for three more years. I hope all goes well for you.

I’ve also taken the DVLA test in Huddersfield and passed. They use the Humphrey machine which I was used to from hospital. My understanding is that, if you can’t meet the requirements for the eye chart test, they should tell you so presumably you wouldn’t be able to drive. However, if that didn’t happen the first time it shouldn’t happen this time. You don’t get the field test results straight away so you’re ok to drive if you feel comfortable doing so but you may feel less nervous having someone with you who can take care of issues like parking. Good luck.

I had a field test in my hospital and passed ok My doctor was so pleased he said see you in 1 Yr This was 5weeks ago At Specsavers 3weejs ago the field vision test was inconclusive due to me been nervous Dvla are sending me to Huddlesfield for a different type of test Anybody got any ideas what it entails please?

After my initial failure of the ESTERMAN VF test, when I walked to my local SPECSAVERS and lost my driving licence for 4 months, I insist on a friend driving me to another SPECSAVERS, every time. It is my opinion, that the instructions for this test should be scripted and sent to us, as I have experienced inconsistencies in the way the test is administered. I achieved my best results without wearing spectacles, but the first administrator would not allow this.NB - the frames obscure your vision! I believe the height of the chair also influences the outcome. I also found it very distracting when the administrator was rustling in her bag and the other customers talking behind the curtain. I continue to feel aggrieved as a result of the unprofessional way in which my first test was administered and the outcome: revocation of my licence for 4 months, considerable expense, loss of D1 on my licence which restricts me from driving for work, inconvenience and the decline of my elderly mother as it was extremely challenging to visit her in an area without public transport. Go into your test with a positive and assertive attitude and question the administrator if you are concerned or unclear about the test. Good luck.

These tests are a nightmare and test practicality every aspect of your being except your eye sight! The shambolic way in which they are carried out is a disgrace. They are more a test of character than anything else and this being my 90th year means I'll have to jump through the hoop once again. Thank you for the rant. 🤗
