I have been prescribed both and have been using them for around 3 years. I have never heard this. Now I am worried.

sorry did not mean to worry anyone. Found info on Google when I searched amlopodine/monopost. Seeing consultant shortly and will post answer. Will still take both for now.

Please don't worry. It's important to flag these things up on here. What was the reason given for not using both these meds? I also have AMD so I am very careful what I use. I'm seeing my consultant on the 30th so will also ask her. Thank you.

The reason given was this type of blood pressure meds relaxes blood flow in the eye as well as the arteries in your body and can increase eye pressure. It was a medical paper not some ones opinion. If you ask and I ask we might get a conclusion

I have normal tension glaucoma and was put on Amlodipine last year after a high blood pressure reading at my GP (I’m 54 and otherwise fit and well). I also went two years without a check up at the glaucoma clinic because of the pandemic.

When I was finally seen my glaucoma had worsened and was deemed uncontrolled. I took myself off to see a private specialist who told me to stop the Amlodipine for three weeks and do a 24 hour ambulatory BP test, because it (Amlodipine) could have contributed to the worsening symptoms. He also wanted to find out if I have a night time BP dip that can make glaucoma worse. He said there’s a high incidence of “white coat” blood pressure meaning people are being overmedicated. In my case my BP was fine even at night so I’ve not needed to investigate alternatives.

I would say definitely worth asking your Consultant

Thank you for this. I also have AMD. My glaucoma was missed because of covid and had to miss an opticians appointment. No family history of glaucoma so it came out of the blue. Both eyes have glaucoma and left optic nerve damaged by a bleed and also have cupped discs. Taking some getting my head around all this. Blood pressure discovered to be very high in Feb so have to have medication. It is now under control. Also having both cataracts removed asap. A lot to take in but trying not to panic. Difficult at 2 in the morning. Will discuss with consultant at cataract op time.

Hi all. I am unaware of this too, so I have emailed a couple of our ophthalmology contacts to try to get an answer for you. I am sure you will but still continue to check with your eye specialist at your next visits. I will come back with a reply as soon as I receive them.

Thank you for taking this up on our behalf. Normally you are told by the medical profession not to Google anything but ultimately I am responsible for my eyesight and need to be as informed as is possible. Thank you again

Helen,

Have you had a response from your ophthalmology contacts? I - and presumably many hundreds, possibly thousands, of others - are on this combination of drugs to treat glaucoma and high blood pressure). It would be very surprising if the medical profession is aware of potential problems but is continuing to prescribe them in combination.

I am worried as I have been taking amlodipine for years and wonder if it has worsened my glaucoma. I will ask at my next clinic visit but would appreciate any more information.

Hello everyone. I have now had a reply and it is fine to take amlodipine and monopost together. Hope that helps clear up the concern over this.
