I had laser t treatment yesterday my pressure has not come down since last visit my dr said he was worried if he didn’t do it while I was there I would run off and never come back which is entirely true .i have my left eye booked in for next week for laser as well it’s a bit scary I didn’t sleep much last night maybe got an hour not sure if this will work my pressures are 30 & 29 pretty cactus really I can still see ok right eye is worse than left with small print but yeah just need to vent as I’m scared of the what ifs

Hi Pinks223. You don’t say why sort of laser treatment you had but I’m assuming it’s SLT. I had that in my right eye recently. Apparently it’s very low risk with a success rate of 70%. Your pressures won’t come down ridiculously low but they may come down to mid-low 20’s. It can take up to three months for that to happen. As you know, it doesn’t hurt so try not to think about it until it’s time. Good luck

It’s scary mate but you are getting treatment and as long as we keep doing the treatment the percentage chances for retaining our eyesight will be overall high. Keep going . We are all in the same boat and you can off load here x

Hi Pinks, it’s horrible isn’t it, but you’re seeing the right people and things are getting done, so there are good reasons to be positive. I have a trabulectomy this week and am not looking forward to it, but so many people in this group have had it done and it’s been fine so I take some comfort from that.

As your eye pressure is so high, I am assuming the laser is an iridotomy for narrow angles. This has a very high success rate.

Its sound as though you are in very good hands, and well done you for having your first eye done, as I can see by your post you were very scared about having the laser done.

Hopefully, at the next appointment, you arent as nervous.

Gosh. That’s interesting that you think 29/30 is high. That’s quite normal for me and even on three lots of drops!

The eye pressure range is normally between 10mmHg and 21mmHg. The drops will be working to a degree, im sure, to help maintain the pressure, but your consultant will be looking at wanting to reduce the IOP to a lower reading, to help maintain your glaucoma and stop the risk of more progression. This is why you are having laser, as the drops alone are not reducing the pressure enough.

Ritualhazard - why do you say 29-30 is normal for you. I ask because that is where I am at with drops and my dr wants to keep adding more.

Normal as in low ish compared to my spikes but it should be below 21 so I understand why your dr wants to add more drops. I was more surprised at the “so high” as that didn’t seem high to me. My pressures regularly spike up to 40 and above. That said, I’m on three lots of drops, had YAG and SLT and am now booked in for a trabeculectomy which I need on both eyes. I don’t know I only know pressure between 16& above is not considered low pressure in Australia my pressure has never dropped below 22 for the past 5 years so my dr wanted to laser it I’m not sure of what the type of laser was it’s only took 10 minutes and had no pre laser prep as my dr was t happy my pressure didn’t go down much at all I’m still on 2 lots of drops and go back for left eye next week . My dr knows I’m not even willing to have much in the way of eye exams due to the stress ( I’m off work at the moment due to workplace bullying and assault in the workplace so adding to my not coping skills .

It takes about 6 to 8 weeks for the laser to kick in..so my doctor told me.

Did you actually have the symptoms or was it for prevention?

Did your eyesight change as a result of the laser treatment, I mean obvs it would if you had the symptoms but if you didn't did you notice an overall change?

I do have a lot of blurriness now but my pressure is still within range, I do, however have astigmatisms and was told that when my eyes get tired they will tend to blur. I also suffer from ME/CFS so do get brain fog and heavy head. I get headaches too. I know that I am fine, I went for a check up yesterday but wondered if others did have preventative treatment because it seems like a relatively easy thing to do to ensure people do not go blind.

I think it was for preventing or perhaps lowering the pressure .it wasn’t really explained to me at the time just my specialist recommendation as my pressure was very high. The lazer did nothing to my sight and only reduced pressure a fraction so that was it referred onto surgery which I had and seems successful so far so good
