Hi I'm not on them now as I've had trab in both eyes but I was on them along with Ganfort for over a year. Initially everything was fine but latterly my eyes were very red and agitated looking. I was never sure which of the drops caused the issue or if it was the combination of both my eyes didn't like. If you do continue to have a problem with them you would be best to let your consultant know .

Good luck and hopefully it's just a temporary reaction

Hi. I had to stop taking Simbrinza after a few months because of an extreme allergic reaction to them. The consultant suspected that my allergy was to the preservative and stopped me using them. This was a pity because they brought my pressures down to 10 in both eyes. Pressures are now back up to 12 /14 but it seems there is no preservative free option for Simbrinza. The consultant explained that my reaction wasn't unusual. I hope you can get on with them because they did work well for me until I became sensitised to them. I'd suggest contacting your consultant if you experience any eye redness or if they become sore and uncomfortable. Good luck

Hi Jeselo12! Just seen your post. Yes! Yes! Yes! Dreadful reaction to Simprinza! Sorry long post follows…

I’d previously taken brinzolamide without a problem but as soon as I took Sinprinza (the combined bribzolamide and brimonadine) I had quite profound reactions immediately, which it is now assumed to have been a reaction to brimonadine followed by its assumed a reaction to the preservatives. Not sure if the two reactions were linked.

Upon taking Simprinza within hours I felt just wrong, so giddy, nauseous and had to lie down. I persisted taking it as I had been told side effects can settle down after a week or so. Watch alcohol! I discovered it made my symptoms worse and I did give up alcohol whilst on it.

However in addition my eyes also reacted very very strongly (sore, red, very blood shot, jelly like surface as irritated, watering, night time stabbing pains) to Simbrinza and lubricating drops did not help at all. I saw an ipthamologust in lockdown who tried to help me.

To cut a long long story short I had this in lockdown and couldn’t get hospital or GP help and lettered went astray.

Finally I got a virtual clinic appointment and the error was picked up. I got brinzolamide (and bimatoprost) prescribed as preservative free and brimonadine was removed from my prescription.

The change was miraculous. Within a week my eyes went back to usual white with slight bloodshotness (as to be expected with glaucoma drops I feel). But also I lost the chronic fatigue, the strange giddy floaty feeling.

I am merrily taking preservative free now and back to normal. But I’ve since discovered there are a few of us who react badly to Brimonadine and that it can react with alcohol for a few of us and the reaction can be horrible. But consultants like Simprinza because it is very effective at lowering IOP so you have to be really stubborn and persistent if you want to get taken off it if it is working well to reduce your IOPs.

Good luck hope you get this sorted. It gave me hell for over a year and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy! Let me know how you get on.👍🏻

hi i took simbrinza terrible drug,,tired..brain fog, anxiety, sticky tired eyes. then azopt just as bad. they changed me to alphagan.

Alphagan is available in a generic form. Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (CAIs) reduce eye pressure by decreasing the production of intraocular fluid. These are available as eye drops [Trusopt® (dorzolamide), Azopt® (brinzolamide)] as well as pills [Diamox (acetazolamide) and Neptazane® (methazolamide)].

it was not effective as the 2 kinds of drug is just has Brimonidine.

i was told that was it no other choice as my pressure was 28

i would not take no for an answer..i could not take this 2 form of medication.

i then went to another consultant who was kind and caring

i had SLT now just taking monoprost. pressures 17 and 18....touch wood....

see below about simbrinza its 2 kind of drugs.ask questions...

how high is your pressure..

what kind of glaucoma do you have

can you try SLT if a candidate

you dont want preservatives

what were you taking before

there is no preservative free alternative for simbrinza see below

its 2 kinds of drugs with preservatives. try and avoid preservatives.

Simbrinza (brinzolamide / brimonidine) is a combination eyedrop containing two medications. Brinzolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, and brimonidine is an alpha-2 agonist. Both medications work to lower the amount of fluid in the eye. When there is less fluid inside the eye, the eye pressure goes down.

I also was put on Simbrinza and it did bring the pressure down but the downside was that when taking it an hour or so afterwards it would make me feel sleepy a not very pleasant sensation, I did come off them and now take Iopidine and Trusopt both preservative free and no side effects obviously this combination would not be suitable for everyone

Hello, if you have any concerns since using the Simbrinza and the you can relate to any of the side effects mentioned in the patient Information leaflet. get back to your consultant. You can do this by calling the eye secretary. Thye can tell the consultant and get back to you. Never leave it, and always make the consultant aware as they would want to know. Only the consultant can decide the best drop for you to try. Although others drops have been mentioned to you by other forum members, they may not be suitable for your treatment, as all glaucoma patients are different, so one drops that works well in controlling and maintaining the glaucoma for one person may not work for someone else. Also, laser differs depending on the type of glaucoma you have.

Thanks ..I have an appointment with the specialist Thursday so will mention it..I need the presssure down to 9 as i have hardly any nerves left so am willing to suffer a bit to save my sight ..

I've only just realised that Simbrinza is the same as Brimondine which is the one I came on here to find out about. Since using it earlier this month I have suffered from dizziness, loss of balance, and a host of other problems including depression. Now that I know what the cause is I will be better able to put up with them. Thank you.
