Yesterday was told to try hylo night ointment for my dry eyes, but struggling to get ointment in the eye. Has anyone got any good tips on how to use without poking yourself in the eye?

Hylo night ointment
It is hard. I pull down the lid and squeeze a length onto the inside of the lower lid. I then tilt my head back, lift the tube away and then blink. This usually leaves enough in my eye. I've mastered this with my right eye but struggle with my left. I also have another technique where I lie horizontal and squeeze a length out until it actually drops off into my eye, I typically only so this if I feel my left eye needs some.
I then wipe the end of the tube with some clean toilet tissue. This may not be good advice, but I've been doing this for 2 years without infection so far. I'm using xailin night but I think most of the ointments are very similar.
Thank you for your reply and help, don’t know why I didn’t think of lying down and putting them in. Fingers crossed I get better as I seem to be missing my eye a lot of the time.
I find Hylo night excellent. Best way is certainly to pull eyelid down and then squeeze a line of ointment onto inside of eyelid keeping nozzle away from eye. I then blink a few times. I also run a tissue under hot water and then apply it to closed eyelids for a couple of seconds. .
