Morning,

A silly question, does anyone wear eye makeup, if so what kind or do you leave your eyes alone.

I’m due to go to a wedding and I used to wear eye makeup, however, with different treatments and drops plus staying in due to pandemic I haven’t worn any. Now, first time out I thought should I or shouldn’t I.

I love reading all your different views, thanks

🤗X

Hi Carnationmac I do wear eye makeup, not on a daily basis but when meeting up with friends etc. I am however meticulous now at cleaning my make up brushes weekly and changing my mascara every 4 months. I never used to be so hygienic but the thought of eye infections wins the day.I am vegetarian so I only use cruelty free brands, I love Charlotte Tilbury's range, the Body Shop do great eye make up too. I use Liz Earle's eyebright to clean my eye make up off.

I've never had any issues wearing make up, although after any eye procedure I wait about 6 weeks before I even think about wearing any.

That's lovely you have a wedding to look forward to, I hope you have a great day x

Thank you for reply, it’s made me confident in using my eye makeup and making sure it’s taken off properly. So looking forward to the wedding thank you. 🤗X

I felt really concerned the first time I wore make up after my cataract op and was terrified I would end up with an infection but luckily no infection. Boots do really great half size Benefit mascaras which are ideal . X

Oh Witchie you put me to shame! I have only cleaned my makeup brushes once since my trab. I cleaned everything & treated myself to a new makeup bag but I haven’t cleaned anything since. I do however change my mascara every month- I used to work for Virgin Vie cosmetics many moons ago & i had to do a beauty course where we learned about cosmetics, etc & they told us mascara should be changed every month. Mind u - that might have been to get you to buy more! 😂

in reply to Wales99

Oh Wales I'm a total paragon of virtue now regarding my make up bag 😇. Every month for mascara yikes !!! I remember Virgin Vie.I meant to type every 3 months for mascara. I always loved Bobbi Brown too and Benefit but I changed to Charlotte Tilbury, her make up is great. I will have to throw it all away after next trab so I really only have the bare minimum now . How's things with you and is your wee cat eating better now ?

My friend has just got a wee rescue dog so I'm so excited to meet her and have a wee doggy day out. X

I’ve just googled how often should you clean your makeup brushes? Just for a bit of fun. Some say once a week some say twice a week. Yikes! I don’t wear makeup very often these days though. From September I’m going back into the office one day every other week so will probably be wearing it more then. Mind u - last time I spoke to my manager she was a bit vague about it so nothing is set in stone. I’m good thanks. Had a long chat with a really nice (for once) GP about HRT. Just waiting for the prescription now. My eye still seems to be progressing as it should fingers crossed! Funnily enough I’m going to phone the vet this afternoon because there’s no change although it hasn’t got any worse. My daughter who is now home from Uni (the cat adores her & is glued to her side most of the time 🙄 thinks that it’s anxiety. So does my husband but I’m not convinced. Oh how lovely- I love dogs too. Just daft about animals really. Have a lovely afternoon- it’s actually sunny down South for a change. I swapped my days around this week to cover for holiday so I’m off today. Went for a nice long walk this morning. Enjoy your doggie play date. Xx

Also forgot to say that I keep meaning to look at Charlotte Tilbury. It always looks so nice. I’m guessing from your comment that it’s cruelty free which is a definite bonus for me as Bobbi Brown isn’t.

in reply to Wales99

Twice a week is too much even for me, I deep clean the house on a Sunday so the make up brushes and bag get their clean then too. That's good you spoke to a decent GP and you are getting HRT, there's no point in carrying on without it and hopefully it will make a huge difference for you. My friend definitely wishes she had gone on it years before she finally did and so does her husband ha ha.

That's the worse part about having a wee cat or dog they can't tell you what's wrong with them. Fingers crossed the vet has some idea what could be wrong.

It will be weird when you do have to go to work again in an office environment. My little brother just started a new job and was going in to meet his new colleagues yesterday, he arrived early to make a positive impression but without his work laptop !!! He had to go home and collect it ,so he didn't make quite the impression he planned too 😂.

I'm just in from my doggy playdate, I think everyone including the humans are exhausted.

Yes Charlotte Tilbury is cruelty free, gorgeous colours and textures, definitely worth the money. X

Yes I’m keeping everything crossed that it works. I’m expecting a call from the vet I rang & spoke to the receptionist but I’m not overly worried tbh. Oh no! That made me laugh about your brother bless him. Yes I’ve worked there six years now so hopefully won’t be too daunting & it’s only once every fortnight. I was talking to my daughter about Charlotte Tilbury & she said it is really nice. She said it’s pricey but then she’s on a student budget! Glad you (& dogs) had a nice time. Xx

in reply to Wales99

I hope receptionist gets back to you soon about your wee cat. I don't use Charlotte Tilbury foundation which is pricey ,I've always used Liz Earle, as I like a no make up look and Liz Earle is ideal for that. I think the rest of Charlotte Tilbury's range is probably not much more expensive than Bobbi Brown . X

I love liz earle, and have used it for years, but after recently trying to buy my usual eyes bright I find the ingredients have changed and lots of people are saying they won't use again. Because it's no longer good for sensitive eyes.

Carnationmac profile image
Carnationmac in reply to Zoladronic

Thanks for your reply. I used to love Liz Earle but now it seems to dry my face, so had to stop using it, shame really, but a lot of makeup has reacted to me, I think it’s my age🥵 I’ll keep trying 🤗X

in reply to Zoladronic

Oh really I didn't know ,I'm just finishing off a bottle just now that I've been using a few months,so I'm guessing it's still the old ingredients . I only use Liz Earle and have for years, I love the fact it's cruelty free and botanical rather than lots of harsh chemicals. I'm disappointed to hear that, my eyes aren't sensitive so hopefully I will still be okay using it as I've no idea what I would use as an alternative.

Hi Witchie346, unfortunately my eyes can be very sensitive and at other times they’re ok, same when I’m using moisturiser, out of the blue, I take a reaction, drives me nuts the way my skin changes, but as GP said it’s to do with my age, damn, one of these thing unfortunately 🤪🤗X

in reply to Carnationmac

Oh the joys of being a female 🤔. That's a shame your skin suddenly takes these reactions and it must be a pain having to change your skincare when it happens. I did have dry skin but thanks to Liz Earle my skin is totally normal now. X

It certainly is, I never get to the end of a jar or tube, hopefully, fingers tightly X it settles soon, very soon ☺️🤗X

Fingers definitely crossed that your skin stops being so fussy very soon. 🤞 X

I do! Whynot? Glaucoma shouldn’t take over your life. I didn’t for about 8 weeks after my Trab & I’ve just started again now when I go out - not that I do very often! 😂. I love wearing makeup- it really makes me feel good. You could have fun experimenting with different looks for the wedding. I use Bobbi Brown but I like to spend a bit more on my makeup. Enjoy! 😊.

Thanks for your reply, I’ll defo be trying all different sorts of makeup out now, it’s the confidence of trying different things and knowing they won’t hurt the eyes. 🤗X

Oooh definitely! I wish I could come & help you. I absolutely love makeup (you might have got that 😂). I remember as a little girl sitting on my mum’s bed while she put her makeup on & I loved everything about it. I used to love playing with her makeup bag - I loved the sound it all made rattling around 😂. Have fun. Let us know how you get on. 😊.

Hi Carnationmac, I left my eye make off while I recovered from my trab and until I stopped the steroids. I now only wear it when I’m going out as I’m more nervous about irritation. However so far so good! As others have said, I am very conscious of keeping everything clean and I use Clinique mascara which is natural and allergy free. There are lots of good non-allergenic make up ranges now and I change the mascara frequently. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply, I used to use Clinique mascara, years ago, so I may take a trip down there . Yes I’ve binned all my makeup and will get new to make sure all are fresh and clean. 🤗X

Hello there, yes and every day! The only time I miss is when I have an appointment as it would be messy. My eyes may not be the most perfect health wise but I sure like them to look nice, glaucoma never changed that for me. I use a variety of brands Estée Lauder, Bobbi brown and Benefit to name a few. I cleanse it all off at the end of the day and keep my brushes etc clean. Enjoy 💕

Dear Carnationmac, thank you for asking this question (its not silly at all) as it was one i have been wondering about too. I don't wear much, only mascara and eyebrow pencil daily as my brows and lashes are so pale naturally they can't be seen! i am more diligent about taking it off every day now. I think i should change my mascara after reading the comments!

Carnationmac profile image
Carnationmac in reply to sewquilt3

Thanks for replying, yes I’m looking at the different mascaras, as I have to wear oil proof or I end up looking like a panda, so I used to use Clinique as they have one that stops that happening. 🤗X

"What is a must-have item in your cosmetic bag, and what can you do without?

When I get my cosmetics bag, I tell myself that I have everything I need but I still want more.

Here is a sample list of what I have in my makeup bag: mascara, blush and foundation. Sometimes it's cream if it's cold, degreasing wipes if it's hot. I often take a mirror with me from here amirobeauty.com/products/am... . I can't do without it, it's so cool. I sometimes manage to get by with a small makeup bag, but I often take a stylist suitcase."
