I survived the Trabeculectomy

Had my Trab on Thursday and I’ve come out the other side 😊. So, so pleased it’s all over. Apart from the recovery of course and the gazillions of drops you have to put in your eye 😂. I don’t actually feel as bad as I thought I would. Eye is a bit blurry which is normal apparently. Due to see the consultant again on Wednesday. Like everyone said the thought of the op is worse than the actual op but that’s the way with most things in life - fear of the unknown.

Absolutely glad it’s over! I expect you felt the same after your op. Hope you’re doing OK.

Wales99 Hi I was waiting to see when you would post on here. How are you. I’m guessing from your post everything is going ok. I’m so pleased for you. Like you said your always think the worst. Hope you have a lovely weekend. Chat soon x

Hi Julie- yes I’m not one for posting a lot but thought I’d let y’all know I got through it OK. Yes having a nice relaxing weekend now. Hope you’re doing OK. X

in reply to Wales99

Well it’s lovely to hear from you and that it’s all done know and recovery is going well. I’m ok getting quite anxious about my appointment on the 15th but we all get like that. Xx

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Yes absolutely- it’s only natural to feel nervous before any kind of appointment I think. Especially as you get older. Xx

in reply to

Hi Julie just wondering how you are? It is totally natural to be feeling anxious but just try and not to let it take over everything else. I have been binge reading a Sharon Bolton book, hers are so dark and twisted just how I like them. Reading definitely takes my mind of my eyes . My son is already planning his birthday and it's not till the beginning of August , he has taken 3 days off work !!! His dad is doing the actual birth day celebration, he's working the other days but myself and the dog are there for the full 3 days !!!! I am looking forward to it though ♥️. Take care and you are in my thoughts x

in reply to

Hi Hidden thankyou for thinking of me. I’m really getting scared now I just keep thinking if I do a field vision test and it’s got worse that’s really bad because I only got diagnosed last December. I havnt heard of that author whose book your reading. I will have a look on google for her. How old is your son going to be. Ha I remember last year my oldest turned 30 and took the whole week off. What are they like. It’s nice to have something to look forward to. Thankyou again for messaging xx

in reply to

I did think you would be a starting to get more worried now as your appointment date gets nearer. Field tests are the big worry but I really do think the chances are yours should be ok as you are on drops now for the pressure. There unfortunately isn't a guarantee with this disease and we will always expect the worst but they have diagnosed you early so I'm definitely hopeful for you.Definitely look out for Sharon Bolton or SJ Bolton as she used to be known, her books really are so good.

My son is going to be 27 and I've no idea where the time has gone. So it's lunch and cocktails on the eve of his birthday and dinner on the actual day !!! It is lovely to be able to celebrate this year and we are making the most of it.

Try to keep your mind occupied for the next few days and kick the negative thoughts out. Good in theory but difficult in practice I know x

in reply to

Thankyou I will try my best I keep looking towards both sides of my nose and then outwards from it to see if I can still see things to the side absolutely crazy I know. I’m feeling sick. Just hope pressures have dropped from last time they were 20 and 24. Ahh so nice to celebrate with your son. It scary how quickly time goes my youngest is 29 and my oldest is 31 we were able to go out this year. Ooh cocktails 🍹 I love them. So nice to look forward to something. Xx

Wales99 in reply to

Oh sweetie I know it’s nerve wracking. Hope all goes Ok for you. Please do let us know xx

in reply to

You are obviously as daft as me I do that too trying to see how far I can see outwards 😱. I also close one eye at a time and see how much of my nose I can see in my peripheral vision !!! Total madness but at least I'm not the only one 😁. I will cross everything for you in the hope that your pressures are down.I'm just focusing on my son's birthday instead of my eyes, I've probably ordered way too many pressies. Our wee boys aren't obviously v wee anymore 😋 x

in reply to

I really thought I was the only one who done that like you say both as daft as each other. 😂 Thankyou for thinking of me. I’m like you I buy to many presents to but I love it. You sound just like me when it comes to our sons xx

in reply to

We are definitely as bad as each other 🙂. I still do a Xmas stocking for my son, it's the same one he's had since he was 4 !!! It makes me happy so why not . X

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Oh definitely- why not! I still do one for my daughter - probably will until/if she has children of her own. Then I’ll do them for the grandchildren if I’m lucky enough to have any 😊 xx

in reply to Wales99

I'm the same but even if I have grandchildren I will still have to do one for my son 🙂. He would be so upset otherwise x

in reply to Wales99

Wales99 i m also like that will do it for grandchildren whenever I have any xx

in reply to

Oh my goodness Hidden I do a Christmas stocking for both of my 😂 can’t help myself x

in reply to

We have been separated at birth 😃 x

😂😂😂

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

😂 I do that too! My Glaucoma hasn’t really affected my peripheral vision - it’s very different but I do that & also I’m constantly closing one eye to see how my vision is - people must think I’m winking at them 😂 xx

in reply to Wales99

I'm just laughing at the thought of you winking at random strangers 😜. I do think you ,myself and Julie are triplets 😋. So good to know I am not the old numpti out there . X

in reply to

Oops I'm meant only not old ,!!!!

in reply to

Hidden Wales99 we are triplets 😂😂😂 xx

Yup mine is pretty dark too and not to everyone's taste . X

When I used to work in the office (been wfh for a year) I used to spend my days saying “I’m joking!” 🙄. They’re a pretty intense bunch 😂. X

in reply to Wales99

😋. I'm a retired police officer so my job was pretty much male dominated and so my humour fitted in perfectly thank goodness. X

Wales99 profile image

Oh goodness yes - you definitely need a sense of humour in that profession.

in reply to

Like Wales99 you definitely need a sense of humour in that job x

in reply to Wales99

I can’t believe Hidden and yourself and me have the same sense of humour 😂 x

in reply to

We are definitely triplets 😋 x

in reply to Wales99

Wales99 that’s really good it hasnt affected your vision. How you doing by the way xx

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Hi Julie. It has affected my vision - it’s quite bad in my right eye but I think a lot of that is the pressure being high because when it goes down my vision is better if that makes sense. It’s because of the rare form of glaucoma I have - lucky me! I’ve never been normal 😂. My consultant says my peripheral vision is good. I’m getting there but still feel a bit ropey. My consultant is pleased with how things are progressing & I’m seeing him again in a couple of weeks. Hope you’re feeling OK. X

in reply to Wales99

Sorry I misunderstood. Is it the trab that affected your vision or the gluacoma I’m not with it today. Glad your feeling better. Yeah I’m ok bit nervous about Tuesday but I’m trying not to stress. I to have a bit of a dark sense of humour it helps but lots of people don’t always get it. 😂 Glad your on the road to recovery xx

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Ha ha I think it was me confusing things. Yes my eye is a bit blurry from the op but apparently this is normal. I’m hoping it will get better now I’m not on so many drops. Overall I do have some vision loss from the Glaucoma because it wasn’t picked up early enough. Ah yes it’s always nerve wracking before any appointment, I had my second Covid jab yesterday & was nervous before that! I hope all goes well for you but I think you have the most treatable form of glaucoma and i’m Sure your pressures will have gone down now you’re on the drops. Yes people don’t always get me either 😊. Good luck for Tuesday if we don’t speak before & do let us know. Xx

in reply to Wales99

Thankyou. I’m nervous but like you say will all get like that. Hope you were ok after 2nd jab I was fine with both. Enjoy a lovely Sunday. Speak soon xx

You survived to tell the tale hurrah 😃. Glad your op is over, now take it easy and have a good recovery . The drops are a pain but in a few weeks all going well more drops in that eye at all. Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend x

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Thank you. Yes I don’t feel as bad as I thought I would TBH. I guess I will find out on Wednesday how things are but I find I’m a lot more philosophical about it all now - what will be will be. Two lots of the drops are only for 7 days so i’ll see what he says about that. Be great if I can stop them but we’ll see. Hope all is OK with you. Enjoy your weekend too. X

in reply to Wales99

That's great you feel better than expected. I'm like you I would always love the best result but I'm pragmatic and it will be what it will be. Let us know how you get on at check up on Wednesday and if you do stop 2 lots of drops then it's a bonus. All is good with me thanks. X

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Hi Hidden just wondering whether I should still be doing the punctal occlusion with my post-op drops? I have been doing it but then I read that you should’ve press on your eye after the surgery. Did you?

in reply to Wales99

I did carry on doing it after my op as I wasn't told not to. I also did it after my cataract ops. It never crossed my mind not to. My partner did freak out when he saw me doing it though. Maybe ask your consultant on Wednesday and double check . X

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Yes I didn’t think it would hurt tbh but I will ask him. I wasn’t given anything for do’s & don’t’s post-op. Trouble is leaving the hospital was all a bit of a blur! All those meds are quite strong so don’t really want them going into your bloodstream I guess.

in reply to Wales99

I was doing ocular massages so I was touching my eye area twice a day anyway and not doing punctual occlusion never crossed my mind. I was going through a bottle of hand wash every few days mind you as I was washing my hands continuously,I was so terrified of infection. As you say all that medication going into your bloodstream would not be good. I was given a whole load of do's and don'ts but that wasn't one of them .After your general things would have been a blur for you. I do tend to close down at hospitals and only take in a fraction of what I am actually told !!!! X

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Yes me too. Getting through a lot of hand wash & as a consequence, hand cream. I too am paranoid about infection. Yes I need to phone the hospital tomorrow anyway because I also forgot to ask for a certificate for work so I need to sort that out. X

in reply to Wales99

It's easy to forget things when you are at hospital. Tomorrow hopefully you will get a definitive answer ,as well as your certificate for work. X

in reply to Wales99

Hi Wales hope you have been relaxing and taking it easy? Good luck with your appointment tomorrow . I will be thinking of you x

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Yes- I don’t find it too difficult to sit around doing nothing! Could get used to this 😂. I am fairly keen to get back to the gym though. My eyelid is still droopy - I think you said it took a couple of weeks for yours to get back to normal? Also how soon did you start going out for a walk? I’ve got my second Covid jab on Thursday &I’m wondering about wearing an eye patch - I seem to remember someone on here saying they wore one when they went out. My husband is going to help me wash my hair later - it could result in murder - wish me luck! 😉 xx. Hope all OK with you. Xx

in reply to Wales99

Sit around doing nothing for while longer then 😛. The gym will be still be there when you are recovered fully. My eyelid stayed droopy for probably a couple of months but during that time it did slowly improve but to me it still looked awful. One day I just remember looking in mirror and it was back to normal. Everyone said it never looked as bad as I thought, apart from the first few weeks.

I started going for wee walks probably after day 4 or 5 but was not allowed out alone !!!! Day 10 I was back to normal and started walking my usual amount but until then I just felt odd ,not ill but not really me . I wore glasses whenever I was out as I was very worried about getting anything in my eye. In fact I wore glasses constantly which I never do.

Hope you had no reaction to 2nd jab? I had mine a few weeks ago and luckily had no reaction to either.

Everything crossed for the big hair wash then, I would have strangled my partner without a doubt 😃.

All is good with me thanks, I'm just enjoying the good weather, so rare in Scotland 😱. X

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Oh that’s all good. Thank you. Yes everyone says my eye doesn’t look as bad as I think. Yes I have to say I feel wobbly & not 💯 but I wondered if that was partly all the drops & also the withdrawal from the Acetazolamide that I was on to keep the pressure down. Yes enjoy the sunshine! Xx

in reply to Wales99

The feeling not of being not quite right is probably a combination of factors so I just went with the way I was feeling and didn't push it. I was told after 4 weeks I could resume working out but I was still unsure about it so waited a further 2 weeks and just eased into it all slowly. I am now obsessed with jump rope and am doing that 30 mins in the evening and it's incredible. Take care x

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Yes absolutely- listen to your body. I have paused my gym membership until August so hopefully will be back to it then. Although I read on an NHS website that you shouldn’t resume gym workouts for 3 months. I guess that is generalised and it will be up to my consultant & how my recovery is. 😊.

in reply to Wales99

Yes just wait and see how you feel and what your consultant says. I didn't use weights for probably 2 months and kept my workouts very basic and no longer than 30mins initially . Exercise is my happy place and I always feel much happier and bouncier afterwards . I would be a bad tempered horror without it 😱 x

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Yes me too! I haven’t been able to exercise properly for years due to debilitating headaches which they think are the Glaucoma so really hoping the op will keep the pressure down enough for me to work out again. Jump rope sounds good but I can’t imagine doing anything like that right now! I don’t really do weights- not free weights or deadlifts anyway- I tend to use the machines in the gym.

in reply to Wales99

Fingers crossed your headaches will be no more and you will be back at the gym in no time. Exercise is so good for both physical and mental health. I just use free weights and alternate strength training with cardio. Everyone else I know forces themselves to workout whereas I do it because it really does make me happy. When you are recovered I really recommend jump rope as it works your full body and you see the results really quickly. My son does boxing training and he loved skipping so I gave it a go too. X

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Yes me too. For the last 5 years all I’ve wanted is to be able to exercise properly without the headaches like I used to. Fingers crossed. Yes I would definitely give jump rope a try. 😊 x

Welcome to the “bleb club”! That’s good news that the op went well. It really is the fear of the unknown. I had mine 10 years ago now and still remember the anxiety it caused me. Keep with all your drops even though putting them in might be sooo stingy. It’s a journey and I hope it all goes smoothly for you.

Thank you 😊. Yes my consultant didn’t want to see me the day after the op either. TBH I can see why - I was still spaced out from the anaesthetic, my eye was very blurry & sore (naturally) the thought of anyone touching it filled me with horror! So I’m quite glad he’s seeing me on Wednesday when it’s settled down a bit. Good luck with your appointment too. I hope you are doing OK. X

Good morning from Thailand and monsoons beginning..... good to read your experience,I had Laser Iridotomy a few years ago after ,I was petrified, not knowing what lasers do..... just that thought.....and I don't scare easily as we live with snakes and Scorpios,etc....My consultant held my arm and 2 nurses holding my head incase I moved..... says loudly....if you are not scared you would be rock wouldn't you?.....we both laughed loudly.....as I am doing writing this on my hammock on the seafront listening to the big waves.....He said later ...... Bingo ......bulls eye..... after a while all was well.Just enjoy and follow instructions👏...the fear of the fear!!..... we all have this at different times in our lives.....there is a book about to this..

Hope yesterday went okay? I know how worrying appointments are , I always fear the worst but hope for the best x

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Hi Witchie. All positive thank goodness. He kept muttering good, good while he examined my eye so I’m guessing he was pleased! 😂. Pressure is down to 15 from 26 so that’s positive. I can stop the antibiotic drops & the ones that freeze the muscle but to carry on with the steroid drops. He wants to see me in 3 weeks. Hope all OK with you x

in reply to Wales99

That is very good news ☺️ that's a great drop in pressure. He must be very pleased that you can stop 2 of the drops. I'm really glad for you as I know how worrying it all is. Just keep with the taking it easy as you are obviously getting it right 🙂. All good with me thanks , just in from a day out with my friend and my dog, a picnic by the sea and a wee wander round some cute shops. X

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Yes I felt very positive. Unfortunately I have had a couple of nasty headaches the last couple of days but I know that steroids can raise eye pressure. I finish one lot today so then I’ll only be on one lot of steroids so I’m hoping that will settle down. If not I may have to ring the evil secretary. Although she was very nice to me yesterday so long may it continue! 😂. Sounds like you had a lovely day.

in reply to Wales99

Headaches are awful anyway without the worry of it being eye pressure related. The steroids although they help with inflammation obviously aren't ideal with glaucoma so fingers crossed dropping one lot does help. Definitely do phone continue phone the evil secretary ( now maybe not so evil 🙄) if they don't subside. Yes my day was great, although we did spend a lot of time chasing our picnic as the sea breeze was pretty strong !!! X

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Yes I’m almost 💯 convinced that my headaches are due to eye pressure- when it’s under control they go away. Although the medical profession won’t confirm or deny 🙄. Yes she was like my new best friend so if they continue I will have to steel myself & ring. That did make me laugh about your picnic 😂. Hope you managed to enjoy it. X

in reply to Wales99

Yes I agree they will be pressure related. You and evil secretary might end up being BFFs 😁 which would be very handy ha ha. X

Wales99 profile image

in reply to Wales99

Morning how is your eye feeling now and have the headaches cleared up at all ? Hope you've been relaxing in the sunshine 🌞. X

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Hi. My eye is not too bad- still a bit blurry. Unfortunately the headaches have been quite bad. I will see how I go today & probably ring tomorrow. I think it is probably due to the steroid eye drops which are a necessary evil. I have been trying to avoid the sun & heat a bit because I don’t think it helps. I’m not really one for outdoors- I prefer it cooler! I do like to see the sun though. I’m enjoying the football- I’m not an avid fan but i do like it when there’s a major tournament. Yes I would think it’s too hot for dogs to walk during the day. Early morning & evening I would think. I do envy you having a beach walk though- I love the sea. Enjoy. Xx

in reply to Wales99

That is not good to hear about your headaches, definitely do not put off phoning tomorrow, no matter how evil the secretary is. Blurry eyes are definitely normal and me not having them was abnormal and showed how quickly I was healing which is not a good thing !!!I love the sun but I'm not really one for sitting out in it for any length of time. I can sit and read for a couple of hours and that's my limit.

I hate football, I spent far too many years working with football mad blokes who could talk literally about nothing else 😱. I don't actually like any sports which I guess is odd considering how much I love exercising.

I have lived by the sea the majority of my life and I do love it, walking on the beach is one of my favourite things, it's a shingle beach not a sandy one though.

If you do phone tomorrow ( please do if you still have headache ) let us know how you get on x

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Yes I will definitely ring tomorrow. She actually said to me last week to ring if there’s any problems and she’ll fit me in to see him. I had hoped I wouldn’t have to but hey-ho things never go smoothly with Glaucoma. Yes I’m not too worried about the blurry eye because he warned me about that & also I’ve heard on this forum. I don’t really like any sport either- which again is odd because I love exercising but I like to do my own thing which is why I like the gym. I just enjoy watching the euro & World Cup matches. I have no clue about football but I become an armchair expert when England (and Wales) are playing 😂. I will let you know the outcome when I ring tomorrow.

in reply to Wales99

That was very kind of her, maybe she has realised she's evil and is turning over a new leaf. Glaucoma is definitely a very rocky road with lots of twists and turns but the positive is we are at least all receiving treatment unlike so many others who are still unaware they even have this disease.Enjoy your football 😜 x

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Well I did mention to the nurses that she shouted at me so maybe someone fed back to her. Yes we are so very lucky I keep reminding myself of that also that I am very lucky to have got my consultant especially as I was diagnosed in lockdown. Ha ha! It’s a bit of a non event so far (England v Croatia). Enjoy the sunshine- I think we’re (South East) due to get thunderstorms later in the week. 😊 x

in reply to Wales99

She probably has had some constructive criticism regarding her manner 🙂. It's probably killing her to be pleasant !!! Lucky and a glaucoma diagnosis wouldn't normally go hand in hand but yes in this instance definitely lucky 🥴.

I've no idea what weather in Scotland is going to be, wet at a guess.

Football is one huge non event ha ha x

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Hey Hidden I phoned the secretary this morning and she was surprisingly pleasant. She emailed the consultant for me & he rung me. He said it was highly unlikely that the headaches would be due to eye pressure as I have had the operation now. How he can tell that without seeing me I don’t know 🙄. I can only hope that the headaches are a combination of coming off all the previous meds including Acetazolomide which is very strong & starting all new meds plus the trauma of the operation itself. I’m praying that things will settle down in a couple of weeks. As he said it is very early days & I’m due to see him on 30th.

in reply to Wales99

Mmmn I don't understand how he can tell that either without actually seeing you. He has no idea what your eye pressure is. I'm obviously no doctor but I would have expected him to make an appointment for you before the 30th. Did he give you any idea of what he thought was causing them ? How are you feeling with his less than helpful attitude? Fingers crossed it is the combination of coming of meds etc and that it does settle down. Have you tried phoning Glaucoma UK and seeing what they say?

Maybe we do stress and worry too much but it's our eyesight and I personally think it's natural when things are not the way they should be. X

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Well yes I was surprised too after hearing that you’re usually seen every week but I did ask him if that would be OK waiting 3 weeks & of course he said yes. He is a professor & a glaucoma specialist so I do trust him as he has a lot of experience but I was a bit disheartened. I did think about calling Glaucoma UK - they are quite helpful but they can’t give medical advice & I do find that they quite often just say to ring your consultant- I do understand why but it is frustrating! Also i am very lucky in that I’m private (I get it through work) so I can ring anytime & they will always fit me in if they think it’s necessary.

in reply to Wales99

Yes you do have to trust that the consultant knows best but I agree it is disheartening. As you see him privately he really would see you if he thought it was necessary. You just need reassurance that's everything is as it should be, I would be the same. Having headaches is so draining anyway. Roll on the 30th x

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Well yes I suppose he would see me - he always has in the past. TBH I’m not particularly worried just frustrated. I’ve been plagued by these debilitating headaches for the last 4 1/2 years - mainly after exercise. When I was first diagnosed with Glaucoma I saw two ophthalmologists- the first one referred me to the professor & they both said the headaches were almost certainly caused by the Glaucoma. I then emailed the NHS trust who had diagnosed me with exertion migraines (I never thought they were) and complained that they should have looked into it more and then everyone clammed up & got cagey & said the headaches weren’t related. I almost certainly think they are because they come back when my pressure is high. It’s so frustrating that they won’t now admit it because they’re worried I might sue them! That was never my intention- I just wanted to make them aware & it was a bit of a knee-jerk reaction because I was angry & scared having been diagnosed & shocked that it had been missed. Hey-ho it is what it is & I just have to move forward from here. Sorry! End of essay 😂. Hope you’re doing OK.

in reply to Wales99

No I would be feeling exactly the same, it is frustrating and you have such a history of headaches which were clearly misdiagnosed and your glaucoma overlooked . When they don't know the cause I do think they put the label of migraine on them.It is shocking that they did all close shop against you and certainly it was fear of being sued.

Being diagnosed with glaucoma is a huge shock regardless but when it's been overlooked it's a million times worse and we know the sooner the diagnosis the better your chances of retaining your sight. I was diagnosed late too so I totally understand.

I am doing ok thank you. X

in reply to floki7

Morning Floki how are things with you? How's your eye doing now, well I hope. ? I am just geeing myself up for a beach walk before it gets too hot, although Lu is snoozing under the table as she doesn't like going out too early 🐕.

Hi Witchie, I am fine thank you, still a little blurry, but happy enough with it, sorry for the delay in replying, but started knocking down an old brick coal bunker, and it is now a fish pond, only taken 8 long days of blood ,sweat, and a Kings ransom, so not had a lot of time to check on here. So how are you, good weather to enjoy the beach, I took our little dog to the beach, frightened him to bits, he has not seen the sea before lol !

in reply to floki7

Glad to hear from you and that you are fine, I think blurry eyes can last for quite a while. Well now I am so jealous I have always wanted a fish pond, clever you.I'm sure all the hard graft and the king's ransom are worth it. What sort of fish have bought? There's a lovely glasshouse in Queens Park in the Southside of Glasgow and they have gorgeous koi carp ponds and I could spend hours just watching the fish.

Oh your poor wee dog, the beach is meant to be fun ,Lu loves the beach but she won't go in the water at all. We certainly had great weather for a few days but back to drizzle and midges now!!!

I've got the opticians tomorrow which I am not looking forward to but apart from that I'm good thank you.

I only have a small pond about 4'x2.5' with 5 little goldfish, I'm expecting more for fathers day I've dropped the hints lol

Thank you, I just dislike anything eye related these days!!! I have been promised ice cream as a reward afterwards 😁I still have complete pond envy, your pond is so pretty, so much better than an old coal bunker. Your hard work has definitely paid off. Fingers crossed more wee fish are swimming around there after Sunday 🐟.

Your wee dog is a total cutie, such a sweet wee face .

I was told not to have an eye test until 12 weeks after trab to allow eye to settle so your blurriness should be all settled by Aug.

Big birthday for you, are you planning anything major for it or not ?

Oh bless you. Yes any eye appointment is nerve wracking now. Don’t forget your glasses! Xx

in reply to Wales99

Ha ha just packed them and double checked mask etc. It's all so much more complicated now. Appt at 2 so just going to take Lu out for quick wee and then we are off x

Optician visit over and done with hurrah, scans, field test and pressure checks carried out I'm exhausted and my non trab eye is quite agitated. News was better than I was expecting, absolutely no further loss of vision and no more damage to optical nerve. Pressures were 16 in trab eye which is same as 8 weeks ago so hopefully it won't go up any more and other eye 17. Optician told me to definitely get trab in left eye if consultant mentions it again, I will.

I'm so relieved so now I just need to see what consultant says in July. X

Well done Witchie, what a relief for you. Hopefully the pressure in your trab eye will be maintained. X

in reply to Redshoes15

Thanks Redshoes, I was concentrating so much I tired myself out, the optician was laughing at me . That's 12 weeks now it's been at 16 so fingers crossed that is it settled. My consultant does want it at 14 so we'll see. X

in reply to Redshoes15

Hi Redshoes just realised tomorrow is Friday and you have your eye appointment, I hope it all goes ok for you. X

Thanks Witchie. I am feeling sick about it, as usual. Trying to be positive but it’s hard as my recovery has not been straightforward. xx

I know you've had a time of it, your recovery hasn't been straightforward. Good luck x

Well going to my sons who has a bigger house, so all the family are going there, so will be most of them around 30, we were going to Cornwall but its so expensive at that time and most cottages are booked up so probably go around October. Yes he looks an Angel till he see's a dark brown dog, then he wants to have a row, any other dog is fine, something from his past no doubt !Gave in today and bought a green Tench 2 canary goldfish and a small Koi.

Just got a copy of the letter my consultant wrote to my GP in it he says the eye is mending very well indeed, so positive good news,

My visual acuity is 0.73 LogMAR, and Introcular pressure 9mmHg in the operated eye,

Not sure what the 0.73LogMAR is but must be good !

Hope you had a good result today !

Best Wishes

That will be great to get together with all the family and have a celebration. I think all holiday cottages are pretty much fully booked for entire summer holidays. Cornwall will be lovely. My dog hates border terriers she goes crazy when she sees them, she was attacked by one when only 11 weeks old and has never forgotten, your wee boy probably has a grievance with a dark brown dog like you say from his past.

Your wee pond is home to some gorgeous wee fish now, I love the sound of a wee green tench .

Yay brilliant news about your eye, your pressure is fabulous, other measurement no idea about either but obviously good. Excellent result I'm really pleased for you.

Opticians was a real trial with all the tests but all much better than I expected, although I have lost a lot of vision in right eye there's no further loss in either eye since I began treatment. My optic nerve though thin also has no further deterioration. My pressure was 16 in trab eye so it appears to have settled there and other eye 17. She did tell me if consultant offers a trab in left eye to definitely say yes. I know that myself and definitely will.

We celebrated by having 2 scoops of ice cream and then I had a white pudding supper 😊

Brilliant news, and a good day all round well done, but you should have had 3 scoops of ice cream ! My Parson Russell Terrier who we lost last year at 16 years of age, loved all dogs, till he was about 14 months old when he was set upon by 2 dogs off the lead, he never forgot that either and any dog after that he saw as a threat. Just looked up that 0.73 thing and apparently 1.0 is severe vision loss, so I will have to keep checking that ! Not sure what a white pudding supper is, but sounds lovely

in reply to floki7

Good news today for both of us then which is great. That's interesting about vision loss measurement I will be aware of that from now on too. Dogs definitely don't forget and it's a shame when they have been happy, friendly wee souls and then they are attacked.

A white pudding is made of oatmeal, suet, onions and spices, covered in batter and deep fried. It is delicious but goodness knows how many calories. The chip shop we go to makes theirs with vegetarian suet which is perfect for me 😋.

Hi Floki. That pond looks lovely. Glad to hear you are recovering well. I had my Trab 2 weeks ago and so far the consultant is pleased with how it’s progressing, however he isn’t now seeing me until the 30th 🙄.
