I’m really having a bad day today. I’ve felt a strange sensation on the top of my eyes not sure if it’s dry eye and when I put my glasses on I feel things are not so clear. Scared of going blind. I have been told disc cupping is 0.7 and 0.8 I googled and I think it’s really bad. I’m so sad right now. Sorry for this

Im not medically qualified, try not to worry, give it over the weekend to right itself, if it doesn't seek reassurance via GP or optician, hopefully it's nothing serious x

in reply to Jennymary

Thankyou I will do that x

And just remember, no looking at Dr Google, as he covers every person on the planet, and isn't specific to you and your problems, as yours are different to mine which is different to the next person etc

Julie don't be sorry for anything you are allowed a bad day. Why don't you give your optometrist a call tomorrow if your eye still feels a bit odd and see if you can get an appointment, as if you don't you will probably just carry on worrying. When are you due back at consultants? You could also give the hospital a call and that mighy help put your mind at rest. I have no idea about the disc cupping measurements I'm afraid but I always find when I Google I never learn anything positive, it's always gloom and doom. I know when my eye feels a bit strange I automatically think the worst too, it's just human nature. Probably before my glaucoma diagnosis there would have been times when my eye felt a bit different and I never even bothered about it but now everything is heightened because I know I have a disease that could lead to sight loss.

I hope your eye is back to normal by tomorrow and that as Jennymary says it's nothing serious.

Take care x

Hi Thankyou so much I work in Sainsbury’s which have Specsavers in there where I go so will probably pop in tomorrow. Googling your right I need to stop it. I hope your well x

in reply to

Yeah definitely do go in there tomorrow and hopefully you will be told it's nothing to worry about. Googling is definitely not good when you are already have concerns about your eyes. I'm fine, I have hospital on Tuesday afternoon so I am keeping busy in an effort to push negative eye pressure thoughts out of my head. 🥴. Let me know how you get on tomorrow. X

in reply to

Thankyou good luck on Tuesday I’ll message you to see how it went x

Thank you. X

Went to Specsavers yesterday and woman was so rude and said they wouldn’t take my pressures can’t believe it. My eyes are not painful but feel like they have grit in them. This was the usual Specsavers I go to I’m so cross and worried again now. I thought they would have put my mind at rest at least

in reply to

Omg that's so unacceptable what a vile woman, I would be absolutely furious and no wonder you are worried, they were meant to help you not add to your distress. Did she have no recommendations at all? She sounds like she needs to find a new occupation. My partner gets gritty feeling in his eyes caused by dry eyes but he doesn't have glaucoma and uses eye drops he buys at opticians.

I occasionally have that gritty feeling when I can't get my prescribed eye drops and I'm given the two generics instead.

Can you phone your consultant tomorrow for peace of mind?

It's awful you tried to get help and got none. X

That’s so horrible. There’s nothing worse than feeling anxious & then someone treating you like that. My consultant’s secretary has been like that with me before when I was feeling so anxious. Nearly made me cry. Sounds like it could be dry eye. Very common with Glaucoma. I got some Hycosan eye drops & they have helped. You can get them in Boots or from Amazon. Xx

in reply to Wales99

Thankyou I will get some. The woman was so rude and nasty it doesn’t help at all. Usually they are so helpful in there. Hope your ok x

So mean & totally unnecessary. Yes give them a go, at the end of the day they can’t do any harm and might make you feel a bit better until you can get some medical advice. Take care & keep us posted x

Stress , tiredness, computers and dry eye can cause symptoms. Pop into opticians and sure they will reassure you , I had to do that recently after dry eye caused by too much on iPad , lack of sleep etc.... popped to Boots pharmacy , but they told me to speak to their opticians after I explained about me waiting for Glaucoma tests. They sold me some preservative free dry eye drops, only had to use twice, though tonight my eyes feel sore , so might pop some in tonight.only natural to worry about anything eye related when newly diagnosed , because you focus more on it , I do that too.

Hopefully nothing more than feeling tired and stressed Julie. Have an early night and good rest , you might feel better in morning x

So pleased that you are able to share with us Julie, it’s so hard dealing with Glaucoma on a day to day situation. There is always that constant worry, I try very hard to put negative thoughts to the back of my mind and focus on the present! I have another hospital appointment on Monday, drops don’t seem to be working as well so I believe this visit is to discuss possibilities of SLT surgery. I’m very nervous and so pleased for the support on this forum. Hope you manage to pop into Spec Savers if not do phone the hospital. I was always nervous of doing this, now I wouldn’t hesitate there has always been someone willing to talk to me. Let’s us know how you get on and try not to google, it’s hard I know. Take care x

in reply to Sunshine8888

Sunshine hope all goes well for you on Monday. Sometimes negative thoughts pop into your head no matter how hard you try to be positive, I think we would be robots for this not to happen.Let us know how you get on and fingers crossed for you x

Bless you. Yes ditto what everyone else has said. Must be something in the air today as I’m having a bad day with my eye too. It’s not been right for a while (I think) typically my consultant is away but I’ve managed to get an appointment with another consultant for Thursday. Just wish I didn’t have to wait so long. Dry eye can make your eye feel weird. My consultants secretary suggested some dry eye drops (Hycosan) and they have helped. Take care x

in reply to Wales99

Typical that your consultant is away but thank goodness you did manage to get appointment with another consultant. Thursday will seem so far away when you are concerned about your eyes. It's the not knowing what's wrong makes it so much worse and I for one always expect the worst anyway when it comes to my eyes. It's positive drops have helped so fingers crossed your issue is dry eyes. All the best for Thursday x

Thank you. Yes not that long diagnosed & I panic about every little twinge 🙄. I am due to have a Trab in June but again that seems very far away. I know you had the same op.

in reply to Wales99

It's hard not to worry and with glaucoma it's better to err on side of caution and contact optician or your consultant . I did feel very scared initially and probably was a complete nightmare to be around but I did eventually mostly get control of my fears. I'm nearly two years down the line and I still think negatively before every appointment ,no matter how hard I try not to. You aren't long diagnosed and you have Trab coming up so panicking is allowed.I was lucky I was told in Dec I needed one and then beginning of Feb I was given 2 weeks notice of the actual date so I didn't have too long to overthink it. Mine appears to be a success, I had no inflammation or infection and stopped all drops at 4 weeks so hopefully yours will be the same. I'm going to find out on Tuesday if I am definitely having one done on left eye too.

It's good to be able to talk to others in same boat and realise it's not only you feeling this way.

You'll be glad when Thursday is over and done with I'm sure.

Ha ha! Yes I think I’m driving my poor husband mad. Luckily he’s very laid back & calm. My sister is my other sounding board & at times tells me like it is. Stop googling & stay off those forums - you’re becoming obsessed 😂. She’s right. I think in “normal” times I would be going to work, going to the gym, shops, meeting friends, etc so I wouldn’t focus on it so much. I was diagnosed in lockdown & literally told you’ve got Glaucoma (like it was my fault) given a leaflet & a prescription & shovelled out the door. There was no support, no-one I could talk to or ask advice of. I was reeling from the shock. Yes I remember you talking about your Trab on here & it was very positive & helpful. I think it’s natural to feel nervous before any appointment- particularly when it involves eyes. Good luck with your appointment. 😊

in reply to Wales99

Yes I agree the last year has not helped at all and the less you have to do the more time there is to worry. Being diagnosed during lockdown and your whole experience was about as negative as it could be, it's a shock at anytime but the whole way yours was handled was awful. Although my diagnosis came out of blue my optometrist was lovely and kind as was my consultant which definitely helped .My partner tells me off for googling too and it is easy to become obsessed. 🥴 Fingers crossed 🤞 both out appointments will go well.

Good morning from Thailand, try some eye exercises, dry eye feeling, gritty and irritating is part of my life here living in Thailand,I use Vislube before inserting Glaucoma medication, also use Tears eye drops, lubrication and relaxing, sending good vibes and wishes..🤗🤗!

Hi Julie how are you feeling today and are your eyes any better ?x

in reply to

Still not great really. Very sore and heavy keep thinking it’s pressure but been told you can’t feel pressure unless it’s extremely high like 50 and I would have headache as well. Hope you ok x

in reply to

That's not great at all and obviously going to Specsavers was a waste of time. Are there any other opticians near you ? I had continual low grade headaches with my pressures at 27 prior to diagnosis but my eyes felt fine. Eye pressure is the thing I think we all worry about most. You definitely need your mind put at rest.I'm fine now thanks felt awful on Tuesday as eye pressure in operated eye had gone up to 16, which I know isn't high but it's higher than my consultant wants it to be. Hopefully it won't go higher as I ll be getting it needled to try and revive drainage bleb 😱.

Other eye at 20 so looking like a trab too for it.

I'm sorry you are still feeling so awful, you really just need to know your pressures are ok and that your eye drops are working. Have you tried tried phoning Glaucoma UK for advice? Or your consultant Take care Julie x

in reply to

I think I’ll go to another optician . Everything has eased. I’m glad your ok what does needled me sounds very scary. X

in reply to

I think a new opticians is a good idea as you would probably never feel comfortable going there again after the way that horrible woman treated you. Thank goodness your eyes have eased now, I hope it's made you feel a bit less scared.Needling is a procedure they do if a trabeculectomy has failed, they use a needle at site of drainage bleb and break down any scarring that is there and then they inject an anti scarring agent to prevent any further scarring. It's meant to try and encourage the drainage bleb work again. I think it's sounds awful and scary too, I really hope I don't need it and that my pressure lowers .

I hope your eyes continue to feel better. X

in reply to

Thankyou so much for messaging. I think I will change opticians. Hope your ok needling sounds scary. I hope you don’t have to have it and your pressure goes down. When do you find out if you need it done xx

in reply to

You need to be able to trust your opticians and the staff , it's a shame as I assume you had no bother in there before. I wonder why some people are just so unpleasant when they have no need to be and in a position like hers definitely shouldn't be.I've got an appointment in June as that gives my eye time to settle and my consultant will decide then. I am good thanks, I am putting it to the back of my mind and I will deal with it when I have to or hopefully don't have to 🤞. X
