Hi,does anyone else use dexamethasone drops for life after having trab surgery as I have been prescribed them for life now after surgery.?
Dexamethasone.: Hi,does anyone else use... - Glaucoma UK
Dexamethasone.
No I haven't, but I'm a Steroid Responder, every time I'm on steroids, my glaucoma reacts badly, pressure up to 50!!! The cornea oedema I had were always treated with steroids and I never finished the course, to try and keep the glaucoma in check at one stage I had 5 bottles glaucoma drops, putting in a total of 12 drops per day, I've also had water tablets to help counteract the side effects of steroids
After my trab surgery 5years ago I had steroids for 6wks and the same after my istent, what were your pressures at your last visit? And are you on any other drops?
Hi,yes I am on Dorzolamide/Timolol eyedrops and Bimatoprost,in left eye, pressure is usually about 14to16,I have normal pressure glaucoma, and since trab in right eye,it has been 5or6, which is pretty low but doctor says I'm tolerating it ok,and to use dexamethasone once a day in that eye for life now.
Hi,I have normal pressure glaucoma ,the eye that's had trab surgery is down to 5or6pressure which is quite low but doctor says I'm tolerating it ok,I was having it checked every week at first and now down to every 3months,and has asked me to use dexamethasone once a day in that eye ,I'm assuming to stop inflammation.
Interesting, in that my left eye has a trab and pressures between 8 and 10 but no eye drops or dex. My right eye is kept at around 14 using brimonidine, azarga and lumigan (bimitaprost) drops. No dex other than immediately after the trab surgery. Just shows how we can each end up in a different treatment regime.
I think all surgeons have their own ways of doing things aswell .
Yes, mine keeps telling me that treating glaucoma is a mix of science and artistry. That makes plenty is sense to me.
Yes it does.
Hi chris4146 , we hosted a digital glaucoma support group yesterday on the topic of glaucoma surgery and aftercare was covered in a small amount of detail. You can watch the session back on our Facebook page here: facebook.com/glaucomauk/vid...
Yes, I am on them for life, but have a Baerveldt shunt. My Uveitic Glaucoma is as a result of trauma (left eye only). I never need to worry about eye pressure! Good luck to you.
Hello warwickshire, and is your pressure ok? I also have a Baerveldt (since 6 months ago) and I'm on dexamethasone twice a day, appart from other drops to decrease the pressure, but in my last check my pressure was very high (30) and I'm really worried. I was told that maybe it is because of dexamethasone and I've a visit to the doctor to see what to do. Are you ok with Baerveldt?
Hello. Yes, it is. It was 8 (never been higher than 15) last Monday! The shunt has saved my sight! I am also on Azarga twice a day. That's nothing compared to the medication I was before the shunt in 2013. I have Mr Sung and his excellent team at BMEC to thank, I can never ever thank them enough.
