Hi Bill

I had a cataract at age 17 with it removed and a new monofocal lens inserted.

The procedure even back then was very common and was performed very quickly.

In terms of vision i was absolutely astounded at how good it was post op. I had to come bag for one session of laser treatment sometime after as my eye tried to grow over the new lens - that was very non-intrusive.

Its been well over two decades since the procedure and the lens is still in there.

In terms of cons im not sure i can really list any. Slight discomfort with a stitch in (i believe the procedure has changed somewhat now so stitches may not be needed in certain circumstances). Also a pretty heavy drop routing post op to prevent infection / inflammation.

In my opinion a pretty sweet deal to get exceptional eye sight back.

Feel free to PM me

Hi Bill,

I had acute narrow angle glaucoma and cataracts diagnosed in both eyes after a visit to my usual optician for a routine eye examination.

The glaucoma was dealt with by laser in both eyes, a very straightforward procedure and then a few weeks later the cataracts were dealt with, my own lenses removed and replaced with artificial lenses. It was done in 2 ops a few weeks apart and for medical reasons I had a general for both ops.

There were no problems other than my left eye reacted badly to the general anaesthetic and I spent a very uncomfortable night after the second op but as most people have a local I’m assuming it wouldn’t be a problem for others.

It was definitely worth dealing with the cataracts as my vision improved significantly and although I still wear glasses they are so light in comparison as the script Is nowhere near as powerful.

Hope all goes well.

The removal of my cataract in one eye made the sight I have left crystal clear. The blind spots I had before are obviously still there but the blurriness has gone. The only downside is that as the new lens is for distance, my close vision in that eye is now much worse so need reading specs for any close work.

Hi Bill,

I had my second cataract done yesterday; already the result is excellent. Cataracts can increase eye pressure and my glaucoma had been neglected by the NHS. I have been lucky to be able to "go private" which I feel has saved my sight.

No Cons. Good luck!
