You could ask to see a Neuro- opthomoglgist, they specialize in vision conditions related to the brain ( which is where migraines are based.

Good luck!

It is very important you see a Neuro-Opthomologist they are Different from a Glaucoma specialist.

Hi Lancashirelass, I’ve had glaucoma for a few years now and have experienced auras on maybe three occasions. I can’t say for sure the two issues are connected. When the first one happened I was pretty concerned but I’ve found that if I go lie down and rest I can usually sleep through them. I dare say everybody is different though. Hope your situation improves.

Hello Lancashirelass07.

You do not mention the type of glaucoma you have. If you have Narrow Angle Glaucoma and you have not been seen for a long period of time due to cancellations of appointments during the Covid-19 pandemic we would recommend that if this happens again you visit the A & E to have your eye pressure checked as it could be a sign that the eye pressure is not being controlled.

If you have Open Angle Glaucoma and your eye pressure is being controlled well with the drops it would be worth checking the patient information leaflet that comes with your eyedrops to see if you are experiencing any side effects that the drops may cause.

Any concerns regarding the migraines especially if you do not normally suffer from these types of headaches should be discussed with your consultant.

Hi Lancashirelass

I have both Glaucoma and have migraine auras. I find that my auras have specific triggers, usually a combination of two. The first is stress, my migraines always occur when I am stressed. Another trigger is a bright light, so I can have an aura after an eye examination. Another is caffeine, during lockdown my strong coffee habit grew along with my stress and my migraines. I changed to decaf and the auras stopped. Yes talk it over with a doctor, but have a think if you can alter anything in your lifestyle.

HelloI have the same thing had migraine aura for 6 years and started on drops in eyes last year

Yes yes yes. Mine started the same year and both got worse 2 years later. But I’ve suggested a connection to several different glaucoma consultants and opticians and they’ve all rejected it, saying there’s no connection, it’s pure coincidence

So pleased to read these messages When I talk about migraines I get the feeling there is something they don't say as they change the topic quickly gees well we must all live for the minute and keep smiling x

We thought I had migraines for years as was in family. Pain up shoulder-blade, neck, over head, eye, down cheek to side of mouth on side of the eye with glaucoma. Better after painkillers and sleep. But not migraines, turned out was scleritis. So drops for glaucoma, pills for scleritis, no more pain. Still need a lot of monitoring, 20 years on. Hope you get to the root of your problem.
