IOP control - alternate therapy

Dear all, I understand for control of IOP, eyedrops medication is the main stream and patients should comply with

.

On the other hand, I know there is alternate therapy like using herbs. And I would like to check if there is any ophthalmologist in the UK would support or provide advice on alternate therapy, as a way to complement with the medication and enhance the effect of IOP.

If there is any related experience (e.g. seeing a ophthalmologist consultant supporting this idea, and showing good effect in the IOP control), would be grateful for your sharing.

Thanks.

Hello lswk

The only proven treatment for glaucoma is prescribed drops Some people use natural alternative therapy alongside their eye drops but NEVER on their own. Certain antioxidants such as Ginkgo biloba has been mentioned in the past saying that it can help with reduced pressure as do most antioxidants but consultants are very much on the fence as to whether they are beneficial or not.

A healthy lifestyle is always important.

Thanks Trish. Yes I intend to comply with the eye drops, but would like to check any alternate experience.

I read the book - The Eye Care Revolution by Robert Abel. So happen on internet there is a link to the E-book, where the sections related to glaucoma are open. (link enclosed below). I think the author is an eye doctor and it talks about usage of herbs in addition to the eye drops.

So far for the eye doctors I met, I did not see one like him. Therefore would like to check if anyone has different experience.

Reply to wbiC Good for you! I have never known that Low Blood Pressure can be bad for my Glaucoma at nighttime but it makes sense to me. I will ask my Dr. next visit as I have always had Low Blood Pressure and developed Open Angle Glaucoma at an early age and I also have a low thyroid and take medication for that. I think some of my Glaucoma medications have side effects for my health conditions, as is expected I guess. I am new to this Forum group and I love all the exchange of personal ideas and helpful experiences. Thanks to all, Eyesong.
