I have Normal Tension Glaucoma. I’ve just received an appointment for a check up for mid June. Is the current advice still that issued on 30th March from the The Royal College of Ophthalmologists or has it moved on? Just wondering if it is a routine appointment or if the consultant has decided that I am at risk of sight loss. Also is there any guidance for patients? For instance my partner normally comes with me, should he stay in the car?

Routine appointment?
Hello GlaucomaMe. As far as we aware the recommendations haven't changed. Unless the consultant has advised otherwise the appointment in June will be a regular appointment. You will need to check with your eye clinic as to whether your partner is able to attend the appointment with you. There are no specific guidance for patients other than to make sure that eyedrops are put in daily as prescribed by their consultant and if able, to attend all eye clinic appointments. If you have any concerns between appointments regarding your vision or concerned about attending the eye clinic if you fall into the high risk category we always recommend that you speak to the eye secretary explaining your concerns. They can then check with the consultant and get back to you.
