Which is the best laser treatment to have for long term sight preservation?
I'm not an expert, but this is my story!
I have normal tension glaucoma which started in one eye and then later in the left eye so in my case I was putting drops in both eyes from the start to try to prevent the left eye developing the condition.
Unfortunately I was very sensitive to all the different types of eye drops they had and next stage was a laser trabeculoplasty into the right eye. They tried this twice with only partial success!
I eventually got them to prescribe a preservative free eye drop, which I could tolerate. By this time I had managed to get a referral to Moorfields eye hospital who confirmed that the Glaucoma was present in the left eye.
Earlier this year my left eye vision had deteriorated ( worse than the right eye!) and in August I had a trabeculectomy where they cut a flap in the white of the eye to relieve the pressure. This meant 3/4 months without heavy lifting/ strenuous sports, but it has been successful so far!
They want to do the same with my right eye next !
There are apparently some other kinds of treatment, but the Moorfields consultants seem to favour this one for the time being.
