Hi, I too have Normal Tension Glaucoma, and have central vision loss in one eye, and peripheral vision loss in the other eye. I haven’t come across anyone else with this pattern of visual loss and nerve damage before. We are generally led to believe that central vision loss occurs after peripheral loss, but obviously this isn’t always the case.

The damage to the optic nerve progressed pretty rapidly, and I had trabs in each eye within 2 years of diagnosis. Pressures and visual fields are stable now. I had an appointment with an Ophthalmology Professor, and he told me that he had observed this pattern of visual loss and rapid progression to happen more frequently in women.

Thanks for your reply. I always was unique! Interesting that it is more common in women. I have peripheral and central loss in right eye and peripheral in left. I’ve had a trab 3 months ago in right eye and will have left trab in a few months. Pressures are 8 in right and 16 left

Hope your next trab goes well!

No. I don’t do anything apart from putting my drops in just before bed (Azarga). I asked my GS about sleeping with head elevated. He said it was not part of his treatment plan.

Yes I have this.

NTG and peripheral vision loss in my left eye and central vision loss in my right.

I’m female.

Great fun isn’t it 🤦‍♀️ I’ve got severe NTG in both eyes. Had right trab surgery in November and left trab once he is happy with right eye. Rapidly advancing peripheral vision loss in right eye and now central. Left eye not so bad as right. I’m wondering if I have macular degeneration on top of NTG. What have you been told? I’m female too. Is it more common in women?

I had a worrying time about 8 years ago where I seemed to be rapidly losing vision in both eyes. I had several changes of drops and then a trab in my L eye as I had more vision loss in that eye. That’s the eye with the peripheral vision loss. The trab has maintained pressure at around 8 and sight has been stable.

The pressure in my R eye (central vision loss) is controlled by Monopost and Cosopt drops and sight has also been stable. However, I notice pressure is beginning to creep up and has been 16 at my last two 6 monthly appointments (although was only about 14 at best). I’m told these are ‘maximal’ drops so it’s possible that a trab will be considered for this eye if the fields test shows declining results.

I haven’t had an OCT test for years as there’s no point. My results are so poor in the test there would be no deterioration to be shown.

It’s a bit of a rollercoaster ride isn’t it? (Not that we can go on one 🤪)

Yes, I’ve had lots of OCT scans. Just started a new lubricant drop. All my drops are preservative free.

Can you please tell me what pillow pressure is? I only sleep on one pillow as I have arthritis in my neck and if I have two pillows I can’t move my neck the next day. Thank you xx
