What is the approval rate for people with glaucoma to get their license back After dvla visual test?
I had my licence revoked twice and appealed twice, twice I succeeded,it seems to me that they automatically take it away once they see glaucoma mentioned but if you appeal (as long as you have grounds) they have to look in more detail,I wrote them a letter explaining that in 44 years of driving (18 with glaucoma) I had never had an accident and claimed grandfather rights (google it) also I paid Specsavers for my own test which I sent and explained that as long as you do not have three adjoining missed points (including the 20 degrees first two circles in the middle)they had no grounds to refuse your licence, there is also a dedicated glaucoma email but you will have to investigate that as it keeps changing.

Thank you so much for this link. I wish I’d been aware before declaring my ocular hypertension because I now find myself on this troubling treadmill, that I need never have got on, because I need never have declared my ocular hypertension.
I might try phoning the DVLA before my next test. Oh the unnecessary stress this is causing!
But I’m now going to Google my rights. Thank you.
You're welcome good luck.
I phoned the DVLA and no surprises, they insist they have to conduct these tests if you have ocular hypertension in both eyes. That’s not what their website says! She insisted their website doesn’t contain all the information! It’s never worth challenging bureaucrats!
At least next week I shall be asking for a copy of my results and forewarning them before my visit that I’d like them. I will also be using a Henson machine next week. I’ve rather lost confidence in the clunky Humphrey machine, and the fact that last time I only did a single test, which they now say was inconclusive, and I should have been given two further opportunities.
Does anyone know whether using one of two chin rests, designed for single eye use, can affect one’s field of vision. To me it would seem more logical to have a central chin rest if each eye isn’t being tested separately. Just a thought!
Try to relax your eyes when taking the test, don't fixate on the central light and keep blinking,I also don't trust the Humphrys machine, please let me know how you get on with the Henson machine as I have only been granted a 12 month licence and am considering a Henson test next year, you are allowed 3 tests and they cannot refuse to let you see the results they are part of YOUR medical records.
I will let you know.
I’ve just emailed the DVLA’s query line, asking why I’ve been required to do the tests anyway, because neither their own website, or the Glaucoma Association, suggest that ocular hypertension is a reportable condition. But I’m well aware how bureaucratic organisations will defend themselves.
With hindsight, I feel the whole testing process has been flawed because their letter states the tests were not performed to their requirements.
Last time I only did a single test, without any adjustments to the chin rest - which wasn’t central, and I have a long thin face. Could it be that reliability is dependent on the technology being adjusted to individual anatomical requirements? I might be getting pedantic now but there’s so much at stake and if my last test was inconclusive, arguably I could have been given more attempts.
I will now have to see what they reply but I get the feeling I’m being processed rather than treated with dignity and respect. The DVLA’s culture appears to be unfriendly and not not person-centred! In these days of equality, they really could be friendlier and more understanding.
Sorry you are having difficulties with DVLA. Are you on Facebook? You could request to join “UK medical driving licence holders discussion group” as they have contact with the people who process the medical licenses at DVLA and can help. The group is for all medical license holders with a range of conditions not just glaucoma. 👍🏻
Thank you, I am. I’ll take a look once I’m home.
I had a problem with the field of vision test at a Specsavers and my licence was revoked. I retook the test at 2 different branches (cost about £30) and they were very helpful, gave me a copy of the results which proved my vf was OK. I appealed and got nowhere until I emailed glaucomaqueries@dvla.gov,uk who took up my case the same day and my new licence arrived within 3 days.
