Has anybody found something to dampen down nerve pain, without turning you into some sort of sedated cabbage?

Hello, I have severe sensory neuropathy which is one of 3 conditions in a Canvas diagnoses. I do take some tramadol which helps minimally. Fortunately I know longer work so I could lay around on my yoga mat and do light postures. Sometimes I play a new age cd and practice deep breathing. I also work on balance exercises and posture. Now all this helps minimally......I guess we're stuck! Things could be worse.

When I'm involved with people and have to be 'on' or busy in my art studio, the distraction does help, just knocks me out later. Wish I had better advice.

I'm taking a B-complex Methylfolate daily and using infrared hand held lamp on the areas of pain. I recently and an acupuncture treatment on my feet and I'm starting to have more sensation, I was losing sensation and had balance issues. I've seen improvement. My finger tips are currently pain free just with the Methylfolate. I refuse to take pharmaceuticals.

I have been recently diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy (or peripheral neuropathy) and have been on tramadol, prescription strength naproxen, and flexeril since the year 2000. In the beginning, all was diagnosed as fibromyalgia, but I have reason to believe now that it could have been the neuropathy. Over the years I've treated the pain (in conjunction with the meds) with a combination of meds, chiropractic and message (which did wonders initially), and a rheumatologist overseeing my care. When my insurance changed, I had to find other options. Most insurances won't cover long term treatment for chiropractic and/or message. I found out through a friend of mine about essential oils. I've used them over the years and have had great success. However, now that I have been diagnosed with neuropathy in all 4 limbs, (including hands, fingers, arms and shoulders, as well as feet, toes, legs, hips and lower back), essential oils have become a temporary topical help at best. I avoided most narcotics for 16 years, but this year have put it off until this past July. Since September, when I was first diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy, I have finally had to give in to Lamictal, (an anti-seizure med). I'm not happy with having to transition to that kind of a med, but the pain has been unbearable so I feel I don't have much of a choice. I'm currently out on short term disability from work and am not sure if I'll ever be able to go back, but will find a way to deal with it in some way. I will continue to put off more hard core meds if I can at all help it, but if anyone has anything more that they can suggest, I would be willing to try just about anything.

Thanks

I suffered terribly and was given Gavapentin by the Doc which totally didn,t agree with me. ( found out it,s an epilepsy drug that works by blocking messages from the brain......yuck! ). Discovered Alpha lipotic acid which worked for me, I buy it in the health shop. Also there is research being done into probiotics ( good ones are vital such as V.S.L 3 but it was too expensive to continue ). I now make my own probiotics with kifer...brilliant!. Check them out yourself and their benefits, there is quite a lot on you tube. best wishes. B. x x

I take lyrica (prescribe for people who suffer from epilepsy) 75mgs twice a day on an empty stomach every morning it does help me with the stabbing electric pain. I rub massage feet with Vaseline and coconut oil.
