The benefits of vibrating platforms for FND?

I am wondering if anyone has used one of these platforms, with a view to regulating the nervous system or helping with limb weakness.

Unfortunately I got 'page not found' but I think a clinical trial for vibrating platforms (or, preferably, mobile gizmos such as subwoofers) would be great since they have proved effective for people with pain etc. They could design the trial so it covered people who don't have hysteria or FND or conversion disorder or whatever they're calling it these days so they'd have control groups to assess the relevant efficacy for people currently diagnosed with FND. Blinding it might be difficult because people would know if they were trialling a gizmo but I guess they could make a comparison with those receiving 'standard care' for FND.

Yes, my daughter was loaned one to use for 10-15 minutes daily. At first she said it made her legs feel “lighter” and it felt a lot easier to walk, but after a while it didn’t help at all and made her feel tired. She stopped using it and we asked her neuromuscular therapist what could have changed. He explained that whilst vibration can stimulate the nervous system, it can also overstimulate if used too much, so he recommended every other day instead. His vibration pad was very old and designed for the legs lying flat on it, but it’s the same principle (they’ve obviously been modified since he bought his, as it only has one intensity setting).

Hope that helps. 😊

That is a useful insight thanks .. I am looking for more calm in the nervous system, so maybe one of those machines is not for me. ..but perhaps ok for patients who need some stimulation to get them going?

I couldn't access it either but maybe some relaxation/meditation or even some sensory input. like wrapping yourself in a soft comfy lightweight blanket, sensory oils etc and getting out into nature seems to have a calming affect (or bringing it to you in some way).

Sorry about access difficulties ..have changed the reference now ..but there are no details of the effect on the nervous system. Progressive muscle relaxation is the best thing I have found so far.

No worries, I guess as the reply mentioned above its a balancing act between stimulation/and over stimulation (sensory input). A vibration cushion was mentioned for my son.
